The private registration?
« on: April 04, 2022, 09:15:01 AM »

I was in London over the weekend visiting my eldest and came across a G-Wagen (Was it a G-Wagen, my memory is questioning me now,.....should have taken a picture) but anyway it had a registration of:

THE 2A

I'm not really one for private plates but that would work for quite a few of us :-)

I expect there would be quite a number of people after that registration!

Whilst on the subject of clever private registrations:

I have seen M3SSY on a street sweeper and WH11PPY on an ice cream van.  I don't know why but neither show up on the DVLA search.

My friendly MOT tester told me he saw a cesspit emptying tanker with a sticker on the back that read "No stools left in this vehicle overnight"

I couldn't resist having my amateur radio callsign on my Nissan Leaf plates  :RHD

Best one I ever saw was URD 1 on a Zodiac convertible top down on the Hammersmith flyover back in the '70s, you can picture the driver  :cool, the plate's on a gold Volvo nowadays.

The plate from my first 2A (928 DJB) has been on various Range Rovers / Land Rovers over the years since I sold it for spares back in '82 and is presently on a newish Merc.

Best one I ever had was KHO 5 on a 1952 125cc BSA Bantam. I didn't appreciate it's potential value in those far off days.
My Series 3 has a  1963 3 number 3 letter plate, perfect for a 2A.

5 EXY on a really nice Mini Cooper (Coalville, Leics, 1975).

I believe ALB 10N went on a council lawnmower only to be bought by West Brom ???
Paul Daniels had MAG 1C
Jimmy Tarbuck had COM 1C
And the list goes on......

Censors at the DVLA do not now issue "dodgy word" registrations.

I've had 300 BJH on my SI for over 50 years.

I'd like to make it impossible for anyone to plate-rape it, after I'm gone.

Can I ask DVLA to make it non-transferable?

For free.....?

I didn't say it was recently! Probably saw it before the Ferrari was built.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I have a memory that this service was introduced by them, however I cannot find it listed on the gov uk website. Hmmm  :shakeinghead
