Lix Toll
« on: September 26, 2022, 12:01:52 AM »

A fair few members in this part of the world will remember "Lix Toll" garage on the road to Crianlarich. Multiple front page shots in the LR & Off-road mags of the Cuthbertson tracked landrover that used to be on the Forecourt, the Easzee-on cable transporter.... or getting recovered after a breakdown ! Billy delivered me a new radiator at 2am one morning and we fitted it on the roadside ...

I was up that way today, refuelled on my way to Aberfeldy. I have to report it was a sad sight. Shop closed, fuel "automated", pay by card - but worse, not a single Landrover for sale, in fact no vehicles at all. The big aladdins cave scrap-yard behind the garage now far more ordinary cars than landrovers.  An Era over I'm afraid  :'( :'(

I remember it well. They bailed me out of the poo in 1996 in my old 2 door Range Rover while on holiday up in your neck of the woods.
Didn't the Cuthbertson and the Roadless end up in a Brazilian collection?
As you say, the end of an era...

Jim sold the business a fair few years ago now. The new owners were nice enough people but did not have quite the same connection to Landrovers.

I remember organising a trip for the SLROC  (Scottish not Suffolk !) over the Corrieyairack Pass (when it was still open many years ago). We stopped at the Lix Toll garage for fuel and spent ages wandering around the vehicles out back. I particularly recall the Cuthbertson, a little home project 'Dune Buggy' type quad with a mid-mounted Mini engine and a great big Leyland Martian among others.

Must have the photos boxed away somewhere !
