Found this in an old magazine, hope it comes out readable, does anyone own this land rover now?

Just read it. Interesting. There's nothing like the perfect balance of an in line six.

It's not in the public DVLA database so it was probably already scrapped or a non runner when the new style computerised reg doc came in.

Just because... always wanted a sixer - avec Weslake head. And I know in all seriousness, it'll never happen,  allow me to dream.

I heard with an extra light foot, you can have them do as much as 12 to the gallon.

My Dad has a 2.6, I can confirm this... but only when rolling downhill in neutral.

Quite possibly on show plates just for the photos, not unusual on brochure photos.

Some years ago I downloaded a 1967 review for the North American Dollar Area version with the Weslake head which appeared in the "Four Wheeler Magazine", from the roversnorth forum. It's not online anymore.

The file is 5MB which seems large for an attachment here ... if it's desired and the moderators think it's OK, I can post the PDF.

The average MPG given in period advertisements for the European 2.6 is about 17 Imperial and that's what I get with mine (17L/100km). Consumption is higher in winter, lower in summer. Masking off the radiator in winter does help.

At sustained 75mph it uses 25L/100km, which is 11.5 mpg Imperial (also corresponds to the advertisements of the time).

The range per tank limits us to about 2, maximum 3 hours between refuelling breaks, which is about my driving endurance anyway.

I suspect the picture was a library photo and not the one on test.

It mentions the single window wiper motor so they work in unison in the text but the one in the picture has the wipers through the screen so the individual wiper motors. All 6 cylinders were built after April 1967 when the single wiper was made standard across all models.

Yes just noticed it's on a C plate so too early for a six, *might* be a prototype but can't tell from the photo.
