Early vent adjusters paint
« on: November 21, 2022, 01:58:40 PM »

Looking to paint my early vent adjuster.  Any advice on what looks the closest to original colour.

Are you talking about the style that has the little knobs?  The ones I've seen with the knob with "vent" stamped on it seems to be black.  The one with the plain knob, like I have seems to be a plain metal.

It is a frequent question.

If you are going to paint it, you won't do much better than a silver paint of your choice.

I doubt anyone will shoot you over it.

The original finish is a wash or very thin plate of some sort (not galvanised though) does anyone know exactly what it was?

I was talking to Rob Maude about this the other week.

We suspect it was a plating process. What ever it was, it was very thin and didnt protect to well, as almost most are always rusty, Exiles is quite unusual there with it being in that good condition.

As a substitute, like exile says, a shiny silver paint would do I think.  :cheers

I believe it was just zinc plated. I have a couple sets of these levers and the remaining finish looks like zinc plating.
