Wheel step/platform
« on: November 26, 2022, 02:02:16 PM »

Has anybody used one of these. Looks a handy item to help reach into the engine bay. Especially someone short like me.

I've had one similar to that for very many years. They're very useful when washing the roof on tall vehicles.
Looking at your photograph, the step appears to be set very low, can it be adjusted to a higher position?

It's not a buyer's market. If you're feeling slack of the wallet, and can find a set, there's these. Last set I saw sold for £300. No fighting at the back, wait your turn.

Would the Sealey step fit Wolf wheels with G90's which are 30"' diameter overall?
I use a plastic tool box/step. Perfectly adequate and cheaper.

Whilst I see that these are rare and seem not to be reproduced, hence the prices, would I be right in thinking that to mount these would require special longer wheel studs on 3 positions of each wheel ???

I had one of those wheel steps collapse on me at an event once. Probably my fault as I'm a fat git, but it hurt...
I like things simple - standing on an old spare wheel does fine for me.

You are partly correct. 3 special nuts.

They have a bevel and std. thread internally to clamp the wheel then have a machined flat with a std. threaded extension on the outer end.

The step fits over these three and then a standard wheel nut fitted backwards [bevelled side outwards] holds it in place.

Not so many years ago these special nuts were readily available as [at least for the later 2BFC with metric studs] they are the same part as the military 101 used.

One thing you do need is a special deep socket or wheelbrace to remove them - the FC wheel has too much dish to use a ring spanner.
