Land Rover cognoscenti help - what is a '369' diesel engine?
« on: December 15, 2022, 01:30:22 PM »

As topic - looking at the engine number on the engine fitted to the LWB S2a I'm upto my elbows with I find it's numbered 369*****.....

Consult all my data sources, no such number seems to exist......

I know the engine isn't original to the truck as it's had numerous engines over the years. Plumb the number into the Gargler machine and get one hit - this thread on LRUK https://www.lrukforums.com/threads/odd-lr-88-engine-number.232928/  that suggests the number may have been mis-stamped. There's no way the number on this one and his have coincidentally been mis-stamped.... the engine I'm looking at come out of the factory wearing this 369 number. It's a 5MB ribbed block, with traces of red paint on it, so it stacks up as a late, possibly metric, block. But what was it originally fitted to? Was the 369 engine a LR Factory new engine? There has been some suggestion it may even have been an FX4R taxi engine?

Anyone got any ideas on origin?

I wonder if 369 was a service replacement, ie not a rebuild
