Keep an eye on that one. I reckon some big money may well change hands.

I Know that rover we parked side by side at a car show on Salt spring Island (just east of Vancouver island) 6-7 years ago. The owner did a remarkable job of getting it restored to proper original condition.

The driver for the day was Bristol Foster one of the two original participants in the trip and was having a wonderful time showing off the rover.

  Hi

Over here in Canada if it did not have a license plate light the year it was built it would pass the vehicle inspection.

Here is a photo of Bristol driving his old rover into the show.

Are you sure of that- some cars just used "borrowed" light from a clear segment in the stop/tail lamp lens rather than a dedicated lamp.

( The rear lamp on Grizzly has such a segment but the lamp is in the wrong place relative to the number plate for it to do anything useful).

I'll be watching this!  A fancy price might motivate me to finish up work on my 69 Customs & Excise rig!   My work on it will take one of two routes...1) Clean up bodywork, and convert to Left Hand Steering, I have a IIA donor vehicle ready to go for a parts resource.   If I do this, would drive it to Seattle area
and list it on Bring a Trailer site, lots of decent LR prices there lately.
Or 2) drive it to East coast of Canada, ship it to its birthplace....   At least the steering would be proper...    Wonder if I could reclaim the Customs
license number?   Good question for our overworked VRO!
Just an observation on RHS use here.   The SOLID bodywork on this rig combined with RHS makes a VERY unsafe combination at any sort of merging or intersection.  Totally legal but unsafe.

  Hi Guysattley

That's a very interesting Land rover, it must be one of a kind? How did it end up in Alaska?
If you do list it on Bring a Trailer make sure and include the word "rare" that always makes the prices go up substantially. :cheers

I am going to be listing my 69 Dormobile on Bring a Trailer in the near future and the word "rare " will definitely be in the add description somewhere.

Any maker's name plates on that body? I'm thinking Pilcher Green or Wadham Stringer? I assume it was an ambulance as the body looks very like one.

If it is one of those, its becoming a rarity now. Most were scrapped or turned back into standard vehicles.

Not sure which LR you are referring to, but if it's the blue one, OP says Customs and Excise.

So it was probably built as a mobile lab to do roadside tests for red diesel.

Well...to help you further hijack this thread...yes, the Blue rig is a Customs & Excise mobile fuel testing vehicle, bought at Ruddington auction and driven out the gate.  A cab-chassis rig, 1969 RHS 4 cyl petrol, taken to Martin-Walter Dormobile for construction of aluminum-fiberglass body.   Had counters along both sides, 2 sinks, exhaust fan, etc.
Apparently 7 or 11 of these were built, stories vary.    Took it over to Leiden in Netherlands for addition of a sleeping platform, shipped it Hamburg-NYC as "baggage" on a Polish passenger liner, and drove it up the highway to Fairbanks, Alaska where I had a job waiting.
It's been mostly sitting the last few years, shows something like 40,000 miles.   After all these years, needs some new tires and some body work on roof and the full height rear door.   It's certainly time to move it on to a new "keeper", I'm open to offers and suggestions.   Oh, needs paint and new seat cushions.  My choices of action are mentioned in my first post, up a few inches...

And back to the Auction vehicle...is this not the standard Pilcher MOD ambulance.  I know little about them beyond the James Taylor books, we must have an expert on here.   I do like the capstan winch on the front....
