National Drive it Day
« on: April 23, 2023, 10:23:52 AM »

We should all be trying to take our land rovers out for a drive today.  It is National Drive it Day for classic cars.

I’ll be taking mine out shortly, important to raise awareness of classic vehicles and hopefully help protect the rights for historic vehicles in a small way. Hopefully be a few others around to wave at.

Central Shires celebrated Drive it Day on a sunny and warm Spring day with a meet at Harrold and Odell Country Park and a drive round some pretty North Beds villages 👍

For obvious reasons I didn't drive my Land Rover to the pub but on the way home I saw a 1950's Bentley.

Went out for a drive around, and do a few chores whilst out & about. Saw a very nice Alfa Romeo Spyder -  60’s vintage I think.

Oh Buxxer...  I didn't realize it was today or I would have made the effort to drive out and about maybe down the Clyde valley where a number of classics like to go for a run and lunch... :RHD

Oh well maybe tomorrow.

I was working on Tonka this morning but we need a "replen" trip to Tesco and the earlier overcast sky has given way to a nice sunny evening so I'll take her for a run-out.

I stayed in the shed. :P

Unexpectedly went to a series 1 meet in the IIa, unexpectedly because the brake pedal went to the floor in the 80" leaving the driveway...  The joys of brake fettling await!

Of course I thoroughly enjoyed my run out in the IIa and a good reason to have more than one Landrover 😊

It was a lovely afternoon here. Took the dogs to their favourite sand dune walk in the S2. They love it, roof off and noses in the wind.

I went to church in the land rover this morning, berated my friend for not going in his 1930s Riley but he has sent the magneto off for a rebuild

Accidentally I did my bit...

Up to Bridge of Orchy yesterday, and did some extremely dubious acting in a murder mystery play. It turned out that "it was me who dunnit" which was a bit of a shocker.

Getting up there was initially a bit stressful because having checked over the vehicle the day before, I moved it out into the street on Saturday morning, where it sat leaning to the right for a few minutes, during which time several drops of fluid dripped out from the seam at the base of the fuel tank. Then followed 40 Minutes of frantic shoving of quick-set epoxy into the seam, in what I assumed would be a failed attempt to stop it. However, we got 20 miles and the epoxy had set hard by then, so I put in £40 of petrol and none seemed to drip out. Nor any drips for the rest of the ~70 miles up (that I could see), overnight, nor 70 miles back today.

I am not sure I believe that my rushed bit of epoxy-shoving can really have stemmed an actual leak that well. I am wondering if it's possible that a VERY slow leak ?perhaps from the bottom tank plug? has allowed a tiny pool of petrol to form between the 2 skins at the base of the tank, and that having the vehicle lean to the right has just allowed those few drops to escape, and not be replenished by a VERY slow leak??

I'll have to wait and see what develops, if I ever see another drip.

Without knowing the significance of the day, I drove to Wickes to collect some sacks of gravel. Had I known, I would have done a few circuits of the one way system whilst pumping out some inspirational music from the stereo, perhaps Agadoo by Black Lace.
