Metal folder
« on: April 28, 2023, 09:16:34 AM »

I need to buy a small metal folder, vice mounted. Need to fold up to 2mm x 250mm.
There are a few types on ebay. But its always good to get one recommended?

I have used two lengths of angle iron clamped in a big vice, and got a bend with a panel beating hammer.
I did buy a cheap metal folder before that but found it very difficult to use, and you couldn't get a sharp crease without a panel beating hammer.

If this is for a one-off project why not hire one for the day/week from about £5 ???

OR

Sereach YouTube as there are many vids of making your own sheet metal folder. You need something really sturdy and heavy duty to get decent results.

If you have a large workshop/garage and are doing a lot of fabrication a folder would be a useful addition to your armoury.

I've got a 3 foot Edwards folder should any local members require the use thereof. I suspect W Yorks is a bit far for the OP to travel!

I've had good luck with clamping my sheet metal to my welding table and hammering it over with a dead blow hammer and finishing with a body work hammer for a clean crease.

These from Frosts are very robust, I quite often use them for 3mm x 50 -= the one I have is 6" so may be they need asking

I use an older version of this, mounted in my vice. Works a treat.
