Hi,

Click here, and be afraid .... very afraid.

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/15400-pilonidal-disease

On the other hand, there can't be many vehicles that have a disease named after them, albeit slang.

And NO,  I don't go searching medical dictionaries for rude words ... I read about this in the Daily Telegraph, and anyway, Google is more educational than the OED.  ;-)

Oh no it isn't, he's behind you....

We can give it a try and see how we get on. If we find it too upsetting we can always revert back  :RHD

Just leave it as is. A Jeep is a Jeep is a Jeep. I like the Jeep.

Thank you Scotty. :tiphat

TBH I always thought it a bit petty to censor it.

Hi Exile,

I always regarded it as gentle teasing.

PS, What do you call my Jimny, then. It's predecessor (J413?) had a very LR-ish chassis, but smaller.

I always call em "Jimmy" , a mate has one in bright red which I'm often mocking as a "hairdressers car" suggesting it be daubed in NATO green...

Ironically there was a GMC Jimmy which was a massively wide  US 4x4, a rebadged Chevrolet Blazer.. I had a very battered 1969 one for a while about 20 yrs ago it was a monster compared to a LR..

Hi,

Nobody has been brave/stupid enough to mention the Jeep designed specifically for the British Army.

https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/austin-champ.html

I suggest that Austin were given the wrong brief. About 2 tons of truck, capable of being driven underwater, and costing the British taxpayer about £2,500 each in 1951 (with no Purchase tax payable). About 10mpg (or less) of petrol. Independent suspension all round (double wishbone)., 5-speed gear box with no reverse. Reverse was in the back axle. Another propshaft ran from the rear diff, to the front diff, to give four wheel drive. The split rim wheels were interchangable with Landy wheels.

Bought a Champ in about 1967, for £100 I pulled the  Rolls Royce B80 (???) 4000cc engine, and dropped in a BMC  LD 2 litre engine and gearbox, from a bread van. The van cost me £10. This meant I had reverse gears in both the gearbox and the back axle.  :stars

This monster was only just cheaper to run than Barbara's Hillman Imp, but that was because diesel (then) was appreciably cheaper than petrol.

Project completed, including an MOT, I lost interest, and swapped it for a Triumph Vittesse, that came to nowt. And Barbara's Hillman imp was written of by a baker's van that didn't stop when he reached the main road. I forget what we had next. Maybe it was my first S1, that had been garaged for 11 years? Half the petrol had evaporated away ... sniffing the filler pipe was vomit inducing.

I have photos on Photobucket, now, but can't remember how to post them here.  ??? That will be my next thread, starting in a couple of minutes.

I've known a couple of Austin champs over the years, not owned by me I might add..they seem to end up mainly as rust buckets, presumably they were deemed way overly complex in service...I believe they were also quite dangerous , in that you could go as fast in reverse as forward, leading to some nasty accidents unsurprisingly... :shakeinghead
