Zenith Carb - what's this thing?
« on: October 09, 2021, 04:00:55 AM »

It's time for that favorite game:  What's this thing on my engine?  I'm rebuilding my Zenith 36IV carb.  After removing it yesterday I took my first good look at it and noticed what looks like the stub of a hose coming out of the base. I've attached a photo. Does anyone know what it is?  Also, I noticed a bracket attached to the manifold next to the carb., but nothing is attached to it.  I'm thinking of just removing it. Does anyone know what it was originally connected to?  (photo of that too).  - Thanks.

The crankcase breather attaches to that bracket and pipe.

Best do away with the troublesome PCV valve. Blank off the outlet from the oil filler tube and the carburettor and connect the oil filler/breather cap straight to the metal angled tube from the air filter to the carburettor.

Not so, seen here on a NAS 1964. Different country, different regs.

Today I removed the hose connector for the PCV but I can't find a bolt to fit the threaded hole (to seal it up).  Does anyone know the right size?  It seems to fall between 9/16 and 1/2"?

Its a plumbing size, not the usual UNF. I bought a plug a while back, might take me a while to find the email trail.....

As an aside, that connector is silly money !

I think it was another of the Suffix D chassis number changes in April 67.
My April 67 IIA is one of the first D suffix and has a Zenith on it.

The Zenith carbs seem to be metric threads so worth looking at those although it may be a metric fine thread rather than the horribly course standard thread.

If the thread is in the adapter plate underneath the carb it might be a BSP pipe thread.

^^^^ It is BSP, I bought a plug recently, trying to find the paperwork to confirm the size !
The adaptor plate is not part of the Zenith kit, its a landrover item.
