What you did with your Series 2 in November ...
« on: November 01, 2021, 10:44:05 AM »

Drove it over to Malvern Wells for the 4x4 Land Rover and Vintage spares day, some interesting "puddles" on the B4219! Back to Malvern for lunch and a natter with a friend, then over past Ross to my sister's for dinner. Back home this evening up the A49 cruising happily at 60 on the straight bits!

I think I saw your Station Wagon in the car park! Does it have the 2021 club rally sign on the front bumper?

Andy, I am very impressed with Clare's writing and Garry's photography, he makes YOD look much better than it is. I am glad the club got a mention. I will be out in it tonight going to a NW 4X4 meeting in Tyldesley.  What state was the A6 in when you were coming home from work?

Only just seen this Peter. Unfortunately i havent been in work for a few days. No other reason than a break. I can guess that it's got standing water in places across the width and certainly as you approach the dual carriage at Adlington and at the junction of Station rd and Blackrod bypass. Also running across Blackrod bypass near the Cherry Tree pub coming back.

Fitted some mats that I had bought some time back. In the end, very little needed doing to get them to fit, so much so I am a little embarrassed by the thread I started on the subject... Still, shouldn't have to fettle brand new stuff to fit :stars

My daughter is back from Uni, so we went out for a evening drive and a quick visit to the pub. Her first trip in Gertie since rebuild and she really noticed the difference, particularly the clutch which used to be quite savage.

Lights, instrument lights, indicators, choke warning light... well everything works well since the new wiring loom. It is still a novelty to me. Great to be out in the dark... and confident.

Had a 50 mile round trip to parents yesterday to do some gardening duties.  This was after having re-gapped the spark plugs to 0.8mm from 0.6mm - it's lost in the mists of time as to why/who said I should have a 0.6mm gap with Luminition electronic ignition  ???

It does seem to run a bit better:
Idles better (albeit a little fast)
Maybe a tad more power, 60mph on the Keynsham bypass (speedo indicated - but it is correct for the tyres!)
Doesn't run on when stopped
I'll be interested to see what MPG I get

I also filled up with my first tank of E10 petrol on the way, I don't expect any disasters as I've got the correct grade fuel pipe, the only doubts are the carb & fuel pump innards.

Cheers,

Chris

A few tinkering jobs. Rubber boot for drivers indicator needed turning 180degrees. Dried out the indicator unit cleaned it out and put back together. Put new Rocker Cover seals , found i need a new cap(see wanted post) Waterproof padlock on fuel cap was full of water. So dried and put some grease in it. Put in a windshield protecting the lpg vapouriser.

Went out for a 45 mile round trip for the dual purpose of buying some chemicals for our Hot Tub drain down & refill, but more importantly, to give the S2 a really good fast run.

I wanted to see how putting in a new thermostat, and re-fitting my original newly-refurbished 25D distributor,  affected my LR.  Very pleased to report that I had an excellent run, with a decent level of heat from the round heater (though not quite enough to describe the interior as really warm  :-X), and good pick up and steady acceleration throughout.

Unfortunately, I've only been able to fill up with E10 so far, and I did notice a very slight "flat spot" once fully warmed up.  This wasn't noticeable when the choke was half-out, so I suspect a little tinkering with the carb will be called for.  Particularly, as the tick-over is a little slower than normal.

Got to do a little tinkering with the advance & retard knob on the 25D, and a carb tinker should get it absolutely right....  :RHD

Well, it's presentable and pretty much all Land Rover but not quite how it left Solihull!
