I've seen that done before, but I think the problem is the passenger side mirror ends up too far forward so the view is blocked by the windscreen   ???

I had noticed that the example I had seen in Llandudno had a longer arm on the passenger side, and reading your post I now understand why :tiphat

Can't beat the "Military Hinge" mod, in my opinion, but I might be biased   :neener

Do you sell any of those?

Sorry, I don't have a stock of hinges to modify and sell.

The picture of multiple hinges was a special event, to coincide with a Leafers at t'Pit event a few years ago when I begged and borrowed hinges to modify, to swap at the event (for folk who had ordered them).

Folk normally send me their hinges for me to modify.

Saying that, with your location, if you want to try to find a set of hinges on UK ebay or from a member on here, and have them sent to me, I could modify them and send them to you.
Saves you posting yours to the UK, though that has been done more than once from the USA, and even from Australia!

I did have my hinges modified by Robin but was having trouble clearing the garage sides, so I changed the hinges to Defender from Exmore as they have brought out these new all alloy security hinges which I have to say are the dogs *&%^$, so I've now got a set of Defender spring loaded mirrors on which are great as I can see down the side now.

I do still have the old hinges and mirrors so I can re-fit them at any time in the future.

Holds head down in shame. :shakeinghead

You used to be able to get spring loaded wing mirrors which would fit the "Military" hinge (though the hole needs to be enlarged), but I'm not sure they are still available.

Winguard springs to mind   ???

Thanks for letting me.  I might just do the eBay thing, I'm in no hurry, just keeping a lookout for them

My issue with mirrors, being LHD, is seeing both the cars to my right and the right rear corner of my 109 when backing up with the same hinge mounted mirror. I have noticed over the years most US 109's and quite a few 88's the offside rear corners have backed into something. :-\

I've probably commented on this subject before...anyway, I've driven mine for 20 years in England and it's LHD.  I've had Defender hinges and mirrors for all that time.  The mirrors give excellent visibility on both sides no matter both with the station-wagon roof or canvas.

The mirrors, of course, are the same as my RHD Defender, so i guess I am used to them

I would love to go back to the correct hinges; however the reduced rearward visibility would be a major concern.

This is exactly my position, I also have Defender hinges and mirrors :RHD

Think I managed to find new hinges from www.bespokenseries.com
60 euro a pair seems ok vs some of the ebay prices I seen.

...

Could you check that address please? 'bespoken' doesn't seem to exist, and 'bespoke series' (written as one word) brings up an invitation to create a new website.

Regards.

I like Robin's "military" hinge mod but I already had the arms and mirror heads so had to find another solution - the land rover style bracket works for me.

Peter

Thread revival. Maybe a Q for Robin. Mirrors themsleves never get discussed.

I've got coiler mirrors on 347704  347705 mounts to my S2 hinges, and frankly in use they're unbeatable.
Always wanted Robin's milly hinges, simply because they look great. Yet never did find mirrors to come close to coiler jobbies.
Can't be much smaller than coiler-type, what does everybody use?
