OT - Paypal/Ebay
« on: January 23, 2022, 01:59:30 PM »

I recently had a very annoying thing where somehow Ebay/Paypal had become linked so if you bought anything on Ebay, and paid by Paypal, you no longer had the option to enter you Paypal password before the purchase went through. Not exactly ideal for security.
After following various "help", all seemed outdated and nothing seemed to work. Happened after a recent Ebay update, nothing I did >:D
Anyway, I have now found a solution that worked for me.

Go to https://www.paypal.com/signin?expId=oneTouchOptOut and opt out (dont know how I was opted in ??? )

Clear cache and all cookies (you probably will have to sign back in to places you visit)

Restart PC/laptop/etc (dont know about mobiles)

Might be  useful to someone.

Last I knew, here in the States anyway, eBay and PayPal have split ways - you can no longer use PayPal with eBay.

And yes... what you are going through is quite annoying and prone to ID theft even.

They are split here, but PayPal is still an eBay payment option here.

Just to conclude this thread. I just bought something from Ebay, paid with Paypal, using my password. I got a confirmaion of transaction email from Paypal, and a few seconds later another email from them saying:

We've made it quicker to pay with PayPal
PayPal Inc.

Desktop Chrome Windows 8.1 NT 6.3

Since we recognise this device, you'll stay connected for quicker PayPal transactions.

We may sometimes ask you to provide your password for certain transactions, including purchases from new websites.

If you share your device or if it's lost or stolen, please deactivate Desktop Chrome Windows 8.1 NT 6.3 immediately from your list of trusted devices.

So they have signed me in again on my "trusted device" >:D

Maybe I am too cautious, but I prefer an extra level of security. Opted out again ; I wonder if they will try it again  ???

if your device is lost or stolen, how do they expect you to deactivate it??? :stars
:-\ ah ha, use another device that they can then 'recognise' and auto opt in!
