I caused Chaos !

After a fair bit of "static running" while sorting the engine timing etc, I had taken the tank down to near fumes.... thought I'd better go get some unleaded. Unfortunately I ran out about 1/2 mile short of town, just before a set of roadworks. Those heading south had to overtake me while the queue of traffic coming out of the roadworks were battering their way up the road. Mahoosive queue behind me and no way I could get off the road - stone wall !

Ooops.

Checked all fluid levels. Gearbox needed a small amount and the rear axle was almost empty :agh otherwise all full.
I removed the breathers and front and back ones appeared to be seized as the ball bearing wasn't moving. It's possible that the oil was forced out of a seal when the pressure built up. There was a lot of oil and dirt around the front face of the diff casing. I wiped this clean and see what happens with the new breathers.
Ordered two new ones.
Finished off by greasing the U/J's and the sliding joint.

Camping trip was a last minute decision just dumped a load of tools in the tray under the drivers seat. 200TDi lump under the bonnet so some metric stuff and actually it was an 8mm he needed.

Masham is a nice place but from all the trails of oil spots on the market place and around you'd think there had been a load of old Land Rovers here.

....a number plate for the trailer I've been refurbishing. It'll get its first proper outing tomorrow, a 50 mile round trip for some building materials.

Cost £9 from TMS, the auto-factors. Quite how Halfords justify their £16 for a basic plate plus more ££ for extras escapes me.

Also featuring the newly built NATO to 12N Connector, Mk1b.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhs

You do realise that the plate on a trailer (or caravan) must match the type displayed on the towing vehicle.

Oh dear...

Edited, I went off for a wander around the DVLA advice etc, found wording:  "Your trailer must display the same number plate as the vehicle you’re towing it with." ..... now, does that mean just the numbers or does it mean "exactly the same" and all the options in between ?

Note that directly above it it says:

"The number plates on your vehicle must:

be made from a reflective material
display black characters on a white background (front plate)
display black characters on a yellow background (rear plate)
not have a background pattern
Characters on a number plate can be 3D.
"

so yet again DVLA putting stuff on the public face of their website that is significantly simplified, no mention of the fully legal option of non-reflective black/silver, even hand-painted white on black etc.

So.... I think I'll wait till Plod pull me over I think ?

 ??? ???

Sorted out the door catches for my Smiths heater ready for the winter.
Fabricated a dash mount for my phone / satnav / HiFi out of some sheet brass.
Bluetooth speaker / hands free hangs nearby. All very low tech and in reach of the USB charge points.
Test drive to get mower petrol.
