Just came back to the new forum to find I had to log in again, even though I clicked to stay logged in (Firefox)

Also noticed that even though I wasnt logged in, I had access to all of the posts.

(Not trying to create work but mentioning things as I see them in case they have not been spotted yet)  :first

I had the same. It wasn't like I'd left it for any time. I just found I needed to log in again.

So far so good...

Tried to post to the thread "Your help is requested ..." but it came back as an error and said to try again.

I just wanted to jump in and let you know I made over here, so haven't read through everything yet, so, if the following question has already been answered, please ignore it.

Is the "verification" going to be a permanent thing, or just used to everything settles?

It looks like it's the whole child board which has gone AWOL rather than just the file.

I have created a new "Forum Relay" as a child of Introductions.

The posts in there are only "live" and relevant for a short period - until the goods are collected, passed on and delivered.
So this topic never gets ful - but keeping it separate from the main posts hopefully catches people's attention and maybe they can help.

Yes, the subforum. It's not the most active of boards, but while it is only on the old forum you still end up needing to use both. Cheers Alan, problem solved  :cheers

FWIW, I agree that 95% of the content of the old forum will quickly become irrelevant. The two subforums which contain a wealth of information appear to be Workshop Wisdom and Model History and Restorations. There was a lot of content posted by users such as crashbox and 5988 and more recently the information around dating of major units which it would be a shame to lose. The plan is obviously to leave it accessible indefinitely, but access will become increasingly limited as new users will turn up asking questions and cannot simply search on a forum for which they are not registered. I therefore wondered if there any useful ways to transcribe it rather than transpose it, perhaps onto a series of summaries equivalent to the Series 2 Timeline? I would imagine this may be a manual process and does not need to be a priority as the old site will continue to exist. There may also be an easier way to do it, but I for one would be quite happy to put in some legwork as part of a coordinated effort if such a thing was useful.

In successfully, but it is so similar to the old forum, I'm having difficulty distinguishing which one I'm on. Is there anyway of making the little land rover on the tab a different colour, so the forums can be separated out, or some other way of telling them apart?

It tells you, Tim, at the top of the page. It has the word "New" in it.

There are a couple of layout differences which also show you - the new forum has your avatar and the 'show unread posts' buttons under the banner rather than alongside it for example, but the easiest way I found was to use different avatars on each forum (I went for different, strong colours so they show up immediately).
