Hi,

I have it in my head, that if you lift and drop No.1 ball in a Newtons Cradle, ball numbers 2, 3, and 4, stay where they are, and only ball number five reacts. Have I got that right?

Would/does the same phenomena occur when a shunting locomotive is trying to get a long train of wagons moving?

Somehow, from somewhere, I have it in my mind that the engine driver has to get his train moving, one wagon at a time, which involves a lot of banging, and good judgement.
