141800518 a good day
« on: September 01, 2022, 02:56:02 PM »

A good day
Very surprisingly everything seems to work
Engine fired up slightly reluctantly but started
Charge ok, oil pressure good, coolant stayed in system and not on the floor

good to see another 1418 pop up! If you don't mind I may ask if you could photograph some things for me as mine is missing a few bits!

I like it but like mine the valance has been swapped.  I see it has a very early age related registration what is the story?

Random "early age related" ie apparently 1963 plates were issued for a while to any vehicles that had lost their original registration numbers. It would be just pure chance if the vehicle was actually a 1963 one! Nowadays such a plate would mean a 1963 vehicle though. Before that any vehicle being registered (or re-registered) would simply have gotten the next number available from the local licensing area. I once had a 1965 Mk1 Landcrab with a -K suffix plate on it. It was apparently imported from the Channel Islands in 1972. There are ex mil Landies around with similar anomalous year letter plates.

She was first registered in July 1958 so not the original registration and finding out the original I think may be a challenger. There was no front valance fitted when I bought her so I have put on the closest that I have been able to find.

My 58 too was missing the valance and I have the same as yours, in the last 8 years I have seen a couple of valances with the valve strip for sale but the prices were eye watering.

The first replacement A suffix age related registrations were issued , no random but it wasn't used for very long as an ordinary registration so there was a large pool or spare registrations.  Unfortunately DVLA will not change it for a 3+3 registration.

Yours is  about 50 before mine which went into dispatch on 2nd July 1958
