I can still get on to the old forum - according to your profile on there you became a member of the old forum on 17/11/2005 and had 7442 posts when it gave up the ghost.

I don't know if there was another forum prior to that one though  ???

I was trying to do the maths when I first drove the series, I picked up my son on his Birthday, he was 16, (he's 34 now) took about 3 years Woking on it before that, and I joined here before I bought it, not many used the site at the time, well not like now, but there was a fair few, so it has to be at least 20?

I started the forum on November 2002 on something called Ezboard.
After a couple of years I moved it to the SMF platform and hosted on my/our own server.
That version lasted a couple of years and the forum moved into the version you see on the archives.
That version run until the big hack and breakdown in the summer of 2019. This version rose from the ashes.
All-in-all it's not been a bad exercise with but a few glitches.

Hi,

I fell in love with Land Rovers circa 1953. I dived out of a school "crocodile", to run across the road to read the maker's name on the radiator ....

LANDROVER!  Was it love or lust.

I drove my first Land Rover, just a few yards, in 1959, at RAF Weeton (No.8 School of Technical Training), and by 1960 I was driving them for real, at RAF Sharjah (Dubai), which is where I met my first S2 (promptly claimed by the CO). Returning to UK, I spent the next few years working mainly on Leyland Hippos (Google RAF X-FLIGHT IMAGES which might find some pics, and a few lesser vehicles).

My last two years was spent on 33 Squadron (RAF), on RAAF Butterworth, with sole responsibility (it says in my discharge book ... nobody told me) for about a dozen Lancer sideloading fork-trucks (equipped to handle Bloodhound Missiles), half a dozen clapped out Olive Drab S2 Land Rover diesels, a Bedford RL truck, the COs Standard Vanguard ... and one day a brand new Mini arrived.

I gave Barbara a bit over two years living on Penang Island, but she still says I never take her anywhere.

Bikers may be interested in the photograph of an RAF Triumph 500cc side valve, amongst other interesting stuff at https://rafbarnham-nss.weebly.com/nuclear-convoys--x-flight.html

Golly gosh ... didn't we look young?

The reason I ask the Q was this, all them years back, when I first joined, someone here gave me a parts book for free!... and It just blew my mind that he didn't want anything for it, and he put a note inside it "Enjoy" and I have ever since.... just a few days ago I was asking about Polly bushes, and some nice chap is now sending me some for free, and it got me thinking again, and all the help I got putting her together on weekends from club members, I would just like to thank everyone for making this place the great forum that it is..... there's no other like it
