Instrument paint colour
« on: October 22, 2019, 06:36:06 PM »

Does anyone know the correct colour of the black paint used for the Jaeger/Smiths instrument dials?
I'm guessing it is a satin finish?
Just need to touch up the outer part of the dial that has gone a bit rusty.
Also wondering if all the bezels were originally black, or were some chrome, would it be a crime to put a new chrome bezel where it used to be black.
The vehicle in question is a wreck from 1966!

All speedo and multigauge bezels were black.  Anything else was an extra - so who knows - fashions changed from chrome in the early 60's to black everything by the 70's.

All speedo and multigauge bezels were black.

Just wondered, is that also the case for the very early brass bezels?

I was able to refurbish one bezel, but the other was too far gone with rust. Seller charlieccu on Ebay sells new bezels and the sealing rings.

Hi,

Do we have any "posh" members ... who have painted their dash panel with wrinkle paint?

Me? If my dash needs painting, I'd rather strip it, wire wool, and an occasional rub with Brasso.

"BBB" as we said in the RAF. I'm sure there are other members who are familiar with the expression.

Regards.

I've bought his replacement bezels from charlieccu a while back, but in chrome (i know, not original, but i like shiny things). They're pretty nice, but you need to find the right tool to crimp over the tabs to hold it in place. I used a pair or knipex pipe grips covered in fabric to avoid scratches and they worked pretty well

Hi,

"No answer!" was the stern reply

BBB?   "Bull Baffles Brains"  I've abreviated that just a little, but I think you get the idea.

What I meant was which colour to use for the bezel and instrument backing, so here is my answer: I used Revell model paint, code SM302 a silk black colour.
