That`s also been my experience when taking out Classic policies

NCB not used or accrued, but I was told that if you come to them from a 'regular' policy then it will be preserved from expiry which happens after two years where it is not in use.

Just spoken to flux

They came back with a higher quote than emailed from web

They call my truck a pick up which potentially puts it in a different insurance type.

The agreed value is £15 extra that was not mentioned.

Excess is £500 not £150 as stated.

Ifor Williams canopy is a BODY KIT

Fairey overdrive is a modified TRANSMISSION.

I did ask for DAN but got silent pause......

I guess a pickup they associate with a Mitsubishi L200 or Hilux being used on a building site all day, commercial vehicle.

I insure with AF but still get a bit bewildered by the standard questions. Does it have an immobiliser, Thatcham approved alarm, would you like to pay for key cover that covers a new key and coding to the vehicle ECU in the event they get lost or stolen? No, are you sure, keys can cost £500 from a dealer when they need coding, not this key love, £2.99 from ebay.....

It does make you wonder if these companies really understand the vehicle they are insuring.

If you must call it pick then do so but its a truck cab (originaly 3/4 tilt) now ifor canopy (body kit according to them!

Hilux it is not!

I asked that all the guff was removed from policy as if the vehicle does not have it, it cannot be lost damaged or stolen.

The companies make a big deal of being specialist in a specific marque, is that not misrepresentation?

Can the top be removed, yes i replied if you cut the padlock of the rear upper tailgate and unbolt it.

BUT IN THE CASE OF LAND ROVER THAT IS TRUE OF ALL THE PARTS< THEY ALL UNBOLT AND REMOVE

Really, these insurance companies dealing with classic cars must know. or should know about Series 2s and the various configurations ???
If they don't - move on to someone who does.

We all know that a SWB can carry 7, 3 in the front and 4 in the back (but they must be seated on "proper" seats.

Imagine the problems with a LWB 12 seater  :thud

They existed well before the 10 seater minibus nonsense.

An overdrive was an approved extra and is not a modification which impacts on performance in that sense. The only issue is whether it adds value to the vehicle.

But then, with a classic vehicle most owners would want/need an agreed value policy else you'll just get scrap value if the vehicle is lost.

I'm surprised at FJ.

I'm with RH and have had no problems, but then, touch wood, I've not made a claim.

I did have issues once with my 10 seat 109" Station Wagon.

I tried Classic-line insurance and went through all the details then they asked how many seats it had. Soon as I said 10, they said, no, can't insure that. I did say I never use more than 4 at the most but no, wasn't good enough.

I think I noticed the Isle of Wight ferry base their cars on seat numbers. I bet if I declare 10 seats I'll be paying more for a minibus. I guess the rear bench seats do unbolt in ten minutes so I could simply leave them at home and make it a 6 seater for one weekend.

More modern driving licenses also cover less seats. I think if you passed after 2000 you are only covered up to 7 seats? Fortunately I passed before that so I can drive my 109, tow our horsebox with the Range Rover and drive a 7.5ton truck if I wish.

Someone told me mine was classed as a bus!

Turning circle has room for improvement but that is just rude.

imagine if you told them you could turn it into a canvas top, truck cab or station wagon all within 1 day...
I agree that many companies don't understand land rovers and how easy they are to "modify" if you can call it that. as it was all sold as parts to change onto any vehicle in the end anyway.

The 12 seat SW was classed as a minibus back in the day 'cos it escaped Purchase Tax. The 10 seater only really sold in export markets since in the UK, liable to PT, it cost considerably more than the12 seater.

Mine was originally registered as a 12 seat dual purpose vehicle. At various times it's been described model wise as Landrover/Jeep(!), Safari, Light Utility, currently the V5 only says 2-axle rigid body with no record of seating capacity (presently only 5 with central cubby up front and false floor in the back in place of the seat cushions).

These days it's just another :can_of_worms, best left unopened if at all possible!

AF called me and gave a quote slightly less than Hagerty but agreed value was an extra £15, meaning it was more expensive.
To be honest I would not swap for a few Pounds unless it was for a better service.
The overdrive someone mentioned earlier has me thinking. As it was apparently an option at the time, how would I or the insurer know if it was a modification ?
Then I'm onto the engine, originally a 2.25 Petrol, now an equivalent Diesel, is that altered or modified ?   ???

I disclosed everything, optional or not, to Peter Best and tell them what is optional and what is a modification. No problems with them.

Flux referred to mine as pick up insurance.

After web quoting a price that beat existing renewal by £5 they invited me to call for best price.

When I did ring, the price came out more than existing.

When I told them I could stay where I was and pay less they improved by £30.

When I compared policy, miles were restricted versus unlimited, usage was restricted, agreed and recovery were add ons that increased premium by £60.

NFU would not even quote me.

I renewed with Peter James.

I cannot recall if it was peter best or lancaster, but I left them when they took payment at renewal when the policy was not a rolling renewal and I had not authorised it.  Fortunately there was just enough in the bank, otherwise there would have been a lot of problems.  They did pay it back eventually after insisting it was not possible.

I do not like big insurance companies using multiple other trading names, essentially having a monopoly.

Here's a funny thing.

SWMBO & me are driving our Suzuki Vitara down to the Dordogne in June.  We're meeting up with friends for a couple of weeks, who are flying out.

To save them the horrendous cost of car hire when ours will just be mainly parked up at the country house we're all sharing, I asked for one of our friends to be an additional driver, added to my comprehensive policy.

No problem.  Did it on-line and got a £5.44 refund on the Annual premium I'd paid a few weeks back :stars :stars

Yes the vagaries of the Insurance world. I have a little Citreon C2 of 2004 vintage. I bought it to teach my three kids to drive.
Myself and two daughters on original policy. Dad needed a car for a short while, now he was 84 at the time but a blemish free driving record since age 17.
It went up about £30. When Son reached 17 he was added, and yes a refund, £6.  :stars
