Good morning.
1965 Smiths round heater.
Can someone please answer the following questions?
1. What colour was the demister pipe originally, mine is a tatty grey.
2. Where do I buy replacement from, I have seen an exact length Ebay for £50 delivered.
Thanks as ever,
Stephen

Hi Stephen :tiphat I'm afraid I can't help with the correct colour although I think it's grey but £50 seems very expensive to me, when I last required demister pipe hose for my old series 2a I found it in a local caravan and camping shop it was a choice of grey or black ribbed tube and was the exact diameter required and was sold by the metre :cheers I hope this helps, Paul

Car boots or charity shops often have vacuum cleaner pipe which might be suitable for little cost

Have a look at pond hose - some is much the same stuff - possibly slightly coarser windings - but most is black. I did manage to buy some grey - but its thick walled and so tough I could use it as a bench leg.

Smiths Round Heater Hose on SII's 58 to 61 had Black Material over a metal spring core, as I had them on mine.
I am not sure about the standard colour of SIIA Smiths Round Heater Hose. I believe it may have been Grey as PA Blanchard's sell Grey. Or possibly Grey as used on Military Land Rovers. I believe that the PA Blanchard's Grey hose was quite expensive £40 +VAT + Shipping, I don't know if it is Original New Old Stock. But PA Blanchard's are worth trying.
I have looked on Ebay and there is some Grey Original Used Smiths Round Heater Hose at £70 + £19 P&P from Italy and Black Hose from £24 including UK Postage.

Thank you for your replies and your suggestions.
The hose currently fitted is gloss grey with a red spiral on the inside. It is not particularly attractive (in my opinion) and has a small hole in it (where it passes behind the dash) and a bit of over spray.
However if it is original..............Is it?
Kind regards,
Stephen

I have renewed my hose from Hoseworld, they sell a grey hose which looks the part, here's a link https://www.hoseworld.com/32mm-i-d-wire-reinforced-pvc-ducting-vfg-032.html
You can just make it out in this photo.

Thank you for the link and congratulations on the interior of your vehicle, something to aspire to!
The grey hose I have looks very similar to that in your photograph so I will see if I can make it presentable.
In 1975 I bought a newly built house on an estate in Cheadle. It is a lovely part of the world.
Kind regards,
Stephen

My 67 IIA also has grey hoses.
Fortunately mine we good enough to scrub up clean and reuse.

My '67 is a flat heater model and had very brittle black plastic hosing originally. I acquired from an auction a tea chest full of grey ribbed hosing (looks the same as fitted by RobS above)
All the lengths have military tags on - no idea what its original fitment was but it fit perfectly in my flat heater and over the demister vents so I used that. I'll dig one out and get some measurements up to see if anyone is interested in any. I know it fits snugly on a flat heater but not tried it on a round one yet. I have a feeling the offside demister vent on a round heater setup would need two lengths.

A Henry vacuum cleaner hose is the correct diameter, cut to fit, about £7 on ebay.

Hi Guys
Both my Dormobiles have 2 inch black ribbed heater hose. The cost of new is crazy so i cleaned the hose up with soap and water, sprayed it with gloss black spray paint and used a silver felt pen to trace the original metal ribbing that wraps the hose. It looks great and original when installed.

The Henry hose dodge is a good tip :cheers I may even have some ex henry pipe amongst the junk at work...of course I still need to get round to fitting the actual heater :shakeinghead

Good afternoon.
I have refitted the original hose. It is not great but I may be able to live with it. Time will tell.
Thank you all for your posts.
