How much are new chassis these days?

Just thinking £700 plus it is missing the battery tray and the repairs are done to an "Okay" standard, not too far away from a new chassis?

My thoughts too ...

I would save up a bit more and get a galvanised chassis.

On the other hand, if you have a vehicle you want to sell on quickly and make a profit ???

Craig.

£1980 + delivery from Richards, so this is less than half the cost of a new one.

Anyone know a cheaper new chassis?

I dont want to open another can of worms, but have always wondered how much of a chassis can be regarded as the "original" one. Half? quarter? or just the dumb iron with the number on it matching your V5? Weld your dumb iron on to this? If a chassis is replaced a piece at a time over the years at what point does it cease to be "original"? :stars (Triggers broom)
Or is it a case that you should only use new metal when repairing a chassis ???

^^^^ good points, I fear my numbers have been lost on the 11a and a 86" except for the "log book" and bulkhead plate due to historic welded repairs, but I may not be the only one on here :whistle
I have seen folk restamping the chassis but I see little point and doubt if this is legal.....

It's perfectly legal to stamp a chassis.

What is not legal is to stamp a "ringer" - you can't have two chassis with the same number  :shakeinghead
Well, you can but it will cause a lot of grief if found out.

:-\ Our very best advice of today is to stamp your brand new chassis (not necessarily exactly as the factory did, but in the same ish place helps) with the chassis number of your original.

Then cut up, and destroy the remains of the old chassis, keeping the driver's side dumb iron - if it has the original stamped number.
Further "insurance" can be to have a neighbour (witness) the act holding a copy of a newspaper of the day.
You should then be covered all ends up....

Having a chassis number stamped in the expected place - that matches the V5C registration document and the cab plate all helps to show the vehicle is genuine.
It might just help if the vehicle is stolen and recovered (some do get found).
It might help in a road-side spot check.
It will certainly help if you ever come to selling the vehicle.

Worth stamping a replacement driver's side dumb iron  before welding it to the chassis for repairs.

Hi,

i'm not wishing to upset a Club Benefactor ... but I keep reading that Marsland get their chassis from Land Rover. ???

Depending on where the rust is, could you get away with a "half" chassis? Personally, if a "bullet needs biting" ... I'd rather bite it hard.

I'll ask again ... is there any way of "sticking* a soft plate (copper? brass?) to a new chassis ... or even a dumb-iron ... to make stamping the chassis number easier ... prior to galvanising.

Marsland Chassis is now KDL Group /Marsland Chassis  01663 308010 www.kdl-lr.com. I chatted with them at Peterborough in September where they were displaying new chassis. KDL have take on Marsland, they employ some Land Rover trained welders and the Marsland jigg came from Land Rover originally.

OT

but I had a 2005 refurbished [by Okkotar] snatch 2A chassis [from a Panama variant which I think was a remote controlled mine detecting vehicle used in Iraq?] and noticed that there was more than one stamping of the chassis number. I happened to mention this to a member of the Midland l/r club and he told me there are more than 10 positions the chassis number is stamped on that age of vehicle, and that some are inside the chassis rail. I eventually found 6 on the outside.
