The massive mega-storm of October 1987 that caused huge damage across the country was called "It Isn't going to Be a Storm" by Michael Fish.

Huge storms like that don't even need naming - anyone who was there will never forget it!

Hi,

The wettest weather I've been out in was a monsoon .... from the Penang Ferry, to our bungalow. Horizontal stair-rods.

My motor cycle was struggling to keep going, with the ignition spark shorting down the wet spark plug insulation. Barbara on the pillion was not too happy either.  We were wearing shorts and T-shirts, so no damage done.

On one occasion, riding at night, a lightning bolt flashed to earth ... just in front of my bike's front wheel.

It made Michael Fish a nationwide celebrity and we had the largest living elm tree in the UK at our zoo until that storm hit, you are right, if you were there you will never forget it!

ISTR he said it wasn't a hurricane and technically it wasn't, it was was a violent extratropical cyclone. It did have hurricane force winds, though.
