Bought and collected a 1969 11a lightweight from Shropshire.
It’s not very original and in quite a bad way, so not quite sure what I’m going to do with it now!

Right on the border, not far from Welshpool.
It’s not been used for at least three years and needs quite a bit of work to return it to original spec, not to mention a replacement bulkhead£££ :agh

Removed the rear spring shackle plates - upper bolts were seized, and showed signs of the bush rubbing on them. Stripped down, greased.

Annoying squeak gone :-*

Took Legless the SIIA diesel to the local Independant to have the timing chain renewed.

(These days I often pay someone to do the jobs I used to do myself :-[).

First reports are that the excessive smoking on idle has been cured.

Once a new thermostat is fitted I'm hoping to get it back and drive it smoke-free (and warm in the cab) for the first time since I've had it. :-*

Dear all I am trying to trace my Land Rover MYA482E which I bought in 1967. For many years there was no trace but it has now appeared on the DVLA web sight. It has a history and I would love to contact the owner. I will be in Folkstone for the Last Overland homecoming.  Ian

I thought I had best wash this vehicle as my G/son wants me to take him to his school formal in it, the Land Rover is very dusty/dirty as you can see, it got that way because of the extreme weather we are having, high temps low humidity + idiots with matches and dry storms make for a lot of bush fires, smoke and ash debris has been falling over a large area including our place, anyway all washed nice n clean now, and just in time as from tomorrow we are on higher water use restrictions, cheers dennis ps that means no hand held hoses/sprinklers etc,,.

95 mile round trip towing 12 foot flatbed twin axle trailer for the most part. Miserable journey in continuous rain down to Essex and back through country lanes with large three piece suite on board for family member. Must have splashed through twenty or more full width of road floods but furniture well tarped down so remained dry. Lenny excelled himself although the steepest hiils took us down to little over 30 mph.

A treat to leave the trailer behind and bigger treat to be back home in the dry with the pub beaconing across the road for a few wind down pints  :skol

‘Quick job’ of checking and topping up front differential. Couldn’t shift the fill plug as clearly tightened up by Popeye on steroids. Drives me mad why do people insist on tightening things to such a degree. Ended up getting a bottle jack under the end of the spanner which managed to shift it. Didn’t need any oil in the end...but at least I know access will be more straight forward next time I check levels.
So much for a quick job  ???

An MOT - which was passed with flying colours!!!!!

Gives me a chance to have my work for the year checked over by a professional and gives me that tick in the box that helps with the insurance premium:)

Merry Christmas all

Of all the MOT's on all the vehicles I've had tested, not one of them has passed with flying colours.

All I've ever been given is a Pass certificate.

What do these flying colours look like, and what do I have to do to my vehicle to get them?

Forgive me, for I am confused. :stars

Moved her for the first time in about 4years... Only from one side of the drive to the other and had to been done with a trolley jack and some wheel dollies.

I asked a couple of guys from work to help expecting maybe 1 or 2 to help, 5 cars and 7 guys turned up. Legends

Dear Confused of North Essex,
Many Candidates sail into an MOT station full of confidence with their "colours " flying (metaphorically)
Scraping through the test especially collecting advisories will reduce those colours to tatters  :shakeinghead
The opposite is to come through with those colours flying high!

Considering the uninspiring weather, and my massive migraine, a cracking blow-out-the-cobwebs trip through to the far West Coast with my son. Fully loaded including a keg of homebrew in the back, and some good tunes pumping out, going up Rest and Be Thankful. Wiper motors making good handwarmers ...

Ah, thank you Dentman.

My vehicles get through without advisories.

I shall expect colours next time.

What have I done with my SIIA today?

Fiddled with it.

Fiddled with it some more.

Got nowhere.

Came inside a had a cup of tea.

Recently I noticed that it was lacking power going up hills and making strange noises when under load. So out with the timing light. A dab of TipEx on the pointer and pulley mark. The firing point was way off scale guesstimate at 15' BTDC. This was with the vac advance pipe disconnected. So slackened off the distributor clamp and a gentle rotation brought the ignition point back to about 6' BTDC.
It now started more easily and on a test run actually went up hills easily that before it had struggled with.

Having got the charging system working I now find that the engine spits and pops except with the choke out. Car's not been out since July so the petrol may be stale. Tank is also pretty nearly empty so may be picking up muck. I do have in line filters. Will investigate next year.......
