Title: S2C Hinge Grille Badge
Post by: Larry S. on March 12, 2021, 05:16:58 AM
Hello Everyone!

I'm getting ready to build my very own S2C hinge grille badge.

For those of you who have built one - what did you do to attach the spanner to the hinge?  Did you fill the bolt hole with some like JB Weld?  Or did you weld it or fill it with solder or some such?

Thanks!   :tiphat

Larry, the one I made I cut the spanner and welded it to the top of the bolt. That way it could still be used on a vehicle.

I cut the spanner, reduced the width and then cut a thread onto the end.  I used the tab and nut to secure it.

genocache and Alan - hadn't thought of either of those.  Closest was someone's I saw on Instagram where they had cut threads in theirs as well, but didn't use the olive.

Finally finished it.  I didn't want it to be the body color, but went with one that complements it; check out the cuffs and buttons.  Hopefully it'll get it's top coat tomorrow.

Blackened finger nail, perhaps?  :-X
Very artistic though.

Where do you mount this?

Any pics?

It mounts any place you want to mount it, but most I've seen mount it on the grille.

Mine won't be mounted till next week.  I do have pics of some that belong to other people (not everyone who makes them are members), but perhaps some of the members on here will post theirs.

Actually... I haven't ever gotten a black finger from working on Grover!!  *&%^$ knuckles, yes, but not that.

I do have an original *&%^$ Knuckles Pup grille badge to go with it - #008.   Someone stole the design and started making them without permission - got that shut down quickly.  Unfortunately they still sell decals.

I've got one of those *&%^$ Knuckles Pub badges. It came from a chap who was a member of the Empire State Land Rover Club some years ago, complete with certificate. I'll have to dig it out to check the number. I have also seen different designs too, some with the crossed leaf springs.

The one with the crown is the first, limited edition, anniversary version; there were 130 produced but only 100 issued (maybe a couple others after that).  The one with the crossed leaf springs is the second edition and either 130 or 150 of them were made.

After that a few other designs were considered for another production run, but it didn't happen.  Following is a link that shows a visual timeline, but the 1st and 2nd versions are switched and the page was never corrected.

http://moonlaser.com/BKP/

Since then there have been several knock-off versions created and sold.  IIRC the Defender crowd was the first group to do it.

You can see a larger, yellow badge on that page, it's not correct either, I've attached a pic of what they ended up looking like.  I actually got to help design this one!!

That badge, and the BKP badges were created by the LRO group,, but David Walker owns the rights to the 1st version (with the crown) of the BKP badge.
