I’m gathering the bits to put a spare wheel carrier in Gassy’s new tub, I’ve pretty much got everything now but the last bit I needed was the wing nut which holds the tie bar in place across the wheel. I was stunned by the price of a genuine item from Blanchard’s. I’ve nothing against Blanchard’s, I use them a lot and love the stuff I get from them but this staggered me somewhat. There is also £9.99 VAT on top of that and £5.95 postage.
I went to my local fasteners company this morning where they didn’t know how much they should charge for just one wing nut so we settled on 10p

Maybe gold plated ???
Genuinely, some years ago, a mate of mine worked for a Rover main dealer, and you could get a gold plated hawk perch for the back of your Range Rover.

Result :o

Solid gold not plated but I didn't realise you could galvanise gold to get the correct finish.

If they are the correct size, may I suggest that you have another trip to you fasteners and purchase a couple of dozen ?
I would be happy to pay £1 plus postage and I am sure others might be as well

There are 2 types of clamp rod and wingnut that I am aware of, a UNF one, and a whitworth one. Maybe the one for £50 is the early whitworth one? Not that it makes £50 for a wingnut ok! They are rocking horse poo though.

Ditto

The wing nut 302934 has a BSF thread.
Later versions may well be UNF but I don't have a book to hand to check :tiphat

The nut I bought is 3/8” UNC and it’s not quite as deep as the one in the picture above but it does the job.

Now you're being silly, how's a man going to make a living, put is kids through collage and eat foie gras and drink champaign? While driving his Jag??

I think this topic came up, once before.
I made my own BSF one (from steel) by making a paper pattern from a photo, cutting some "wings" from thick steel, and brazing them onto a BSF nut that I had rounded off with a grinder, then spray painting it.
It looked pretty good. But I lost it when I had to move my project from my rental garage to my house.
The second wingnut I made was a quickie with no pattern and without rounding the corners, and no paint, and doesn't look very convincing up close, but works!

If you’re serious I’ll certainly get a few of them in, I pass by there every now and again so it won’t cost me anything to get them and postage will be minimal I guess. However the fact that they had such a great big boxful suggests they aren’t in short supply and should be easily available. They don’t look like the originals so won’t appeal to the purists. I think what’s happened is that the Whitworth and UNC threads are similar enough to be functional but they aren’t the same.

Yes please
I'll have a couple

Yes please I have one too.

Just a suggestion, but would you consider starting a separate post - to make it easier and catch more customers !

Good idea, I’ve put a post in the for sale section linking back to this thread.
I’ve mentioned in the new thread that I have found these on eBay.

They look closer to the original, they are probably the right thread size and because it’s free postage they may actually be cheaper than what I can do? I need to check how much they’re going to cost to post.
