Title: OT defender/discovery/rr suspension bush dimensions ?
Post by: gvo416j R.I.P. on June 19, 2021, 11:01:52 AM
Slightly OT, but it will be going in a series.

I have a series motor which at some time past has been raced and had the engine and gearbox mounts converted to captive types.

I suspect they used later coil sprung suspension bushes but due to covid am not able to go in person to my local dealer and physically check out a new one

Has anyone on here got any identifiable bushes to hand which they could measure for me ?

The pic. is of the gearbox mount after removal of the knackered bush.

As accurately as I can measure, the hole/bush required is just under 51mm in diameter and the bush is approx 40 mm long.

Paul.

Sorry - no bushes to hand, but from your dimensions, my money is on a Range Rover Classic Imperial radius arm bush p/n 575582 (supersedes to NTC7307). If anybody has one to measure, that might be a good start. Seems too big for a panhard rod bush and too small for an upper A frame bush. There are several other sizes of radius arm bush for RRC / Discovery and later L316 Defender.

Hi Mark, thanks for your input.

I think you may be right -- I had forgotten that the early ones had the smaller radius arm bushes.

Further investigation/trial fitting of the 2.25 engine has shown that the pair of engine mounts on the chassis for the V8 engine are way too far rearwards so I have cannibalised an engine mount bush as they were the same type as that needed for the gearbox.

However I'm now in the market for a pair of chassis engine mounts complete with the side plates of the main chassis rail from a scrap chassis  :thud

Typical!
I just weighed in a chassis last week!
