Title: OT: EPROM programmer
Post by: Countax on November 05, 2021, 11:52:51 AM
Does anyone have access to an EPROM programmer suitable for programming the 27c512 EPROM that I could borrow for a short while in return for some beer tokens?

While I don't have such a device, you might have to say where in the world you are based before getting a positive response.

Regards.

Very good point.  I am located near Cirencester, Glos.
I would be willing to travel a reasonable distance if required.

I have a programmer. In fact, I have two.
The issue is how do you get data into the programmer...

One requires a parallel port (remember those!), and runs on DOS (remember that!).  It does nothing without being controlled from a PC.

The other requires a serial port, and I can't remember the software, but likely to be DOS too. This one will copy them though as it has enough RAM to hold an image, and a user-interface on the unit itself.

I am near Peterborough.

Chris.

I also have one tucked away that hasn't seen the light of day for probably 15 years. I'm sure it requires a serial port and its software runs on Windows, probably 3.1. If I can find the disk I will let you know.

Alternatively, there are several projects detailed on the internet where people are using microcontrollers to emulate old EPROMS. No archaic equipment required, just a USB cable and an Arduino.

I've got a TL866 Minipro, quick look on google suggests that it should program a 27C512 no problem. If you can send the details of your chip, I can check. Rather than posting it  it may be quicker and cheaper just to order a new chip and I can program it here, if you have a known working binary for it

Thank you all for your prompt replies and kind offers of a programming solution.  Your help is really appreciated.
If I could ask you to pm me your email addresses or preferred contact info then I will set up a discussion with you all to go over the device types etc.
For those wondering what I am up to, I have the latest firmware for a Crypton 440 Cruisemate engine tuner that I use on my series LR and it adds some neat functions to the box.
Many thanks,
Nigel

Being a luddite I haven't got a clue what is being talked about here, so I'll just go back to my Beano comic.     :stars

A friend of mine used to teach IT so he sorts it all out for me.  :cheers
Dave,

I've always thought it would be good to see posts in languages other than English....
