Title: mid grey, burnt grey, dark grey. '62 109
Post by: 109 fever on November 09, 2021, 02:30:51 AM
I have taken a look at the colors available for a 109 in 1962. So I assumed that my truck is mid grey.   I was told when I purchased this 109 2 door ST that the "burnt grey" was a custom color in 1962.  So, can anyone tell me if this truck is mid grey, or is there credence in the custom burnt grey color?
Thanks for any help.

I have never seen a reference to burnt grey when I have been to view the build records, but it’s entirely possible if it were a custom colour, there may have only been a handful painted in it and would be easy to miss.

That looks far more like dark grey to me, which was mainly an export paint colour :cheers

Looks like the factory dark grey spec. Not many were done in this colour compared to mid grey.

It looks like Dark Grey to me, definitely not Mid Grey . I have just passed on a tin of Dark Grey paint to another S2 member that was purchased new, with the Rover Part number on the tin, from local Rover dealer when they ceased trading and your vehicle definitely looks similar

Could I please get the paint number on the tin?  Any other tins available?  Thanks for the help.

Do you know who restored and repainted the vehicle, it doesn't look like the original paint from the photos?

I assume you want to match the paint but it's quite possible they used an available paint that was similar to the original. If you could contact them and ask or you can get the colour scanned and a pot of paint mixed up to match at most decent car paint suppliers.

Craig.

What ever it’s colour, thats one beautiful handsome looking 109 you have there  :o  :tiphat

Makes me think about painting mine a similar colour with just a hint of green so I don’t have to change the log book, insurance etc etc

Thanks for the kind words.  I cannot reach the retorter of the 109, I can only go by what I was told by the seller who was not the restorer.  I think I will have it scanned and a fresh pot of paint made for touch ups.  Another party who has seen the truck wants to paint his newly acquired the same color and was asking me if I could be of any help.  I'm going to go with LR dark grey.  I think that will suit his needs.

I remember a series of photos of an excellent SWB restoration in rover burnt grey with dark green hood on the Pangolin 4x4 website.  I remember saving the pictures as they were so good but have misplaced them.  The restoration is now showing as under construction on the new website, but an email to them may give a paint code.

Cheers

Hi Jamie,
I know the pangolin truck you are referring to.  I spoke to Jason, not Ike, about the colour.   I believe that 88 (SWB) is the same color as my 109.  i think they said it was dark grey, but had to check with the paint shop.  The baton got dropped at that point, and I haven't pursued it further .
