I noticed this morning that it will be Gassy’s 60th birthday next Saturday. I’d better start planning a party.

But what actually is Gassy's birthday? Date of manufacture (which is accepted for things like historic status, age related plates etc) or date of first registration which could be years later if the vehicle is ex-mil or imported or even date of first use?

Got to be the date of manufacture hasn't it?

It's not a vehicle until it leaves the factory line, whatever dealer fitments go on afterwards, prior to sale.

Bit like a baby's birth date IS the birth date, whatever the christening date or whatever. afterwards......

The only date I know is the registration date so I’m going with that. If I ever manage to find her date of manufacture then that can be her birthday and she can be like the Queen and have an official birthday as well.
