As the prices of knackered Faireys keep up, a roamerdrive is better value overall. I would like one for my 109, but wouldn't want to spend more than a couple of hundred quid.

I'll happily cruise 10 mph slower and save the pennies.

BINGO!

I have considered getting an OD off-n-on for years now, specifically the Roamerdrive.  SWMBO is very keen for Grover to have one.

However, I keep what you said above in mind, as well as the following:

Old Series Rovers have gotten along very well without these things.  Epic journeys, involving multiple thousands of miles, have been achieved without these things.  And most of all - $2,000 can go a long way towards other parts and accesories.

Mpudi: So how did the land rover get up the tree?
Steyn: Do you know she has flowers on her panties?
Mpudi: So that's how it got up the tree.

Any vehicle I want to do more than trundle 50miles or so in will be fitted with high enough gearing to make that pleasant, take a realistic time and not stress the mechanical components. For a Series Land Rover that means an overdrive.

I do have a Fairey which I believe to be in decent condition, together with two others which are probably not but do have the necessary parts to make sure the first one is. Given the age of them, the increasing difficulty of obtaining parts and the relative ease of using a Roamerdrive I think that's where I will look when the less-original PTU project gets moving, so that will be at least one sale.

I  remember when they fist came out - less than $1,000, at least here in the US.

Yes, mine was £790 in, I think, 2002.

That’s about £1500 adjusted for inflation, which we all seem to forget about.

We must be using different inflation calculations.  When I first learned of Roamerdrive, in 2006, they were $850, that comes to about $1,250 today.

Guess I should be thankful that all of the bits-n-pieces and parts for these things haven't increased in price as much as this has.   :tiphat

I will be in the market for a Roamerdrive within the next 12 months, and would have bought sooner if I hadn't already spent a ton of money rebuilding my vehicle. I am buying it purely to lower the engine RPM when going longer distances on faster roads, which is something I plan to do more of.

I think there is still a big market for this product and I can only see it getting bigger as other types of overdrives become harder to get (in a decent state) and the good reputation of Roamerdrive spreads further afield  :cheers

It’s not cheap but some chancer has a fairey on eBay for two grand right now so that makes the roamerdrive a bargain at the same money.

Just checked - I paid £1620 which included tax but not shipping this time last year so they have gone up a bit but so has everything,

Still think their biggest challenge is most people would only ever buy one. The people that get rich make things you buy again and again, like disposable razors or petrol or tyres etc.

I'd really like to fit a Roamerdrive to my 2A but at £2k it's just a bit far out of my price range. I only ever hear good things about the units though.
