Land Rover windows or not?
« on: September 23, 2022, 04:04:43 PM »

On a recent visit to a auto jumble I bought a window :shakeinghead
Only because the seller said it was from a army LR ambulance and because I'm a sucker and it was cheap I bought it!
1 section of glass slides and it is in solid  LR frame and seems very well made but at this point have no idea what I will use it for.
Do you think it may be from a mod LR or perhaps some other type of truck, the glass is dated 1988 if that helps?

Doesn’t look like army ambulance to me for a couple reasons. Firstly every MOD ambulance I can think of had tinted windows in the back and that glass is clear.

1988 would be the early 127 ambulances, either a late Marshall or early locomotors. They tended to have quite large rear windows.

I’d wondered could it be for bulkhead between cab and back but every image I can find is of completely square ones so don’t think it’s that.

Could be civvy ambulance or some special order thing for MOD - it’s unusual that’s for sure.

My money is on it being a window for a horse box or a canal boat or suchlike.

I can see how it would work on a horse box  :bright-idea

or just this one on top of a larger bottom window but would the frames not be joined :stars

Unless I can think of a use I may put it on ebay, but thanks for your ideas :tiphat

The standard MoD Ambulance of our vintage would be the Marshall bodied jobs.

Very much of the style of 'Moydon', later became 'Fulham Vehicle Windows' who made the windows for Carawagons (probably a boat suppliers originally?). Those types of windows seem to be made to any sort of size from long extrusions cut to length. Well made as you say, if you have a use for it...
