Road register
« on: September 25, 2022, 07:49:57 PM »

Is it a lot harder to register my Land Rover for the road once I do it up if it’s been changed from petrol to diesel and the chassis number says it’s petrol , or is it possible to change the v5 to show its now a diesel, thanks

Yes, it's an easy process if you go through the correct channels.

First of all speak to Peter Holden our Vehicle Registrations Office at:- [email protected]

Do not speak/contact the DVLA until you have spoken to Peter.

If your vehicle is "on" the DVLA computer things are easier.

Does the current V5C registration document match up with the registration number on the vehicle and the chassis number ?
Do you have any old MoT certificates or tax discs ???
These all help.

If you try and "go it alone" it could end in tears.

First question is what do you mean by "Register" it for the road ?  Do you have numberplates and an old V5 Registration document with the right chassis number (Stamped into the chassis on the driver side front dumb-iron) or is it "undocumented" ?  If you've not got the papers then I'd suggest speaking to the Vehicle Registration Officer, Peter, before doing anything with DVLA. That could save a lot of problems.  Peter is contactable at [email protected]

I'd also suggest doing things with DVLA one step at a time. Get the V5 in your name at your address first, worry about the engine and fuel type after - The good news is that as a "Historic" vehicle you do not need to show any evidence of the engine change. (A modern vehicle would need something like a garage invoice for the change.)

If you can confirm where you are with the paperwork it will make it easier to help ?

Cheers,

100% speak to Peter before doing anything else.... No way at all of finding out what its civilian Reg. No was ?  It'll make life a lot easier if you can find a civilian plate number, even if it's later been transferred.
