Advice please
« on: November 20, 2022, 11:54:10 AM »

Should I leave the hard top and have just the canvas on the back or back to original with the canvas over the cab, personally I think I like the look of the canvas over the cab , picture is as is with solid cab, I know it’s my decision but any thoughts wounded much appreciated, thanks

Were it mine, I'd have it without the canvas. If I needed a hard top, I'd track down an old Ifor Williams canopy for the occasions when such a thing might be needed. Easy and quick to fir and remove.

If you can keep it in the workshop out of the weather then canvas every time. Oh and a colleague at work says hello to your son, Eilidh Duncan, she went to school with your son. Small world Scotland :tiphat

Mine lives outside all year round and i have a full canvas, I also have the rear flap from an old canvas that I use as a fume curtain to help keep the cab warmer when i am using it in winter

No, the fume curtain slots over the first hood stick, however it is possible to make a similar curtain which fastens to the back of the bulkhead and rear side of the transverse stifferner rib. The one I made years (decades) ago used lifter a dot studs along the rib.

My home made fume curtain doesnt hang on the first hoopbecause I have a setbelt bar fitted, it sits on a home made hoop similar to the middle one mounted just a couple of inches behind the first one but it stll tucks down behind the bulkhead

To clarify terminology what you have there is a "Truck Cab" with a 3/4 tilt. A "Hardtop" is the full length metal job (with or without side windows).

Something to ponder on is visibility. The truck-cab and no canvas gives the best visibility to the side/rear when pulling out of junctions. A full canvas or hardtop limits your vision so you have to think about more about how you position yourself at junctions.

Security is another. While limited, given the poor locks, a hardtop probably gives best security to your cargo, anything canvas....less so.

Oddly enough, canvas is supposed to be quite warm in winter....but until you fit a heater you'll need a big coat :-)

It's yours make it how you want it. That said I went for the hardtop for several reasons; availability, security, weatherproofness among them.
