Thanks for this.  I keep having issues with my Zenith.  Someone I know found a complete NOS one on eBay.  They said tge difference was like night and day.  I looked on their site and saw the bits and pieces,  going to contact them and see if they have a complete one.  And yes, I know I coukd cobble one together.
I didn't cobble this one together, I used my existing top on the new base (I don't call that 'cobbling'!). Put a new O ring in it. Sum total of work done!

Sorry, didn't mean to make it sound like you cobbled yours together, just meant that that suppliers seems to have everything needed to build a complete one from scratch.

In my case I'm not sure where the issue is - I think it's in the adjusting screw.  If that's the case I have no clue if it's the base or the screw.

Let me tell you a story....

Drove Legless the diesel IIA down to the village centre this morning to meet Richard (Allthegearbutnoidea on here).
Went for a two hour ramble. Back to teashop for a light lunch.
Went to start Legless.
Click.
Another click.
Then nothing.

Ignition lights worked, but no power was getting to the starter.
We fiddled under the bonnet, we pushed it back and forth. We huffed and puffed.
Much to the amusement of the tourists....

Gave up, came home in Richard's car.
Put tow rope and tools and some spare wire in my Defender - and went back.

Took off dash panel and tried to jump the switch with spare wire.
Nothing.

We tried bump-starting Legless in reverse in the little road where it was parked.
Not enough room....

Pushed Legless out into the road, reversed Defender up to it and fitted the tow-rope.
We annoyed the passing traffic. :whistle

We were about to try a long tow start through a crowded village centre, so I had to re-fit the dash panel.
Then I noticed the horn and indicators didn't work and ignitiion lights now wouldn't work either.

Hmm, I thought - and went round to passenger side, and lifted the seat to have a squint at the 2nd battery under there.

Murdered the security knob on the battery terminal as tight as I could get it.

And Legless started first turn.

So why didn't I think of that an hour earlier??   :shakeinghead

Received a new exhaust manifold, the old one has a hairline crack and is blowing badly.  All the new gaskets and bolts have also arrived, just waiting the to carb to inlet manifold ones to appear. The the landy will be all back together on on the road again.

Went gearbox mining in my container. Found two. One will be rebuilt for somebody on the Isle of WIght whose gearbox has eaten itself from the inside out. Moved a bench into the garage so I can start doing gearboxes again and made space for the royal visit of supercal tomorrow who is on a nation(s)wide tour delivering parts. Safe travels Calum!

Managed to remove the gearbox from my Lightweight - so much easier with the removable military gearbox crossmember.

Gearbox now stuck in the back of my Discovery Sport - awaiting some help with lifting it out

A bit of lubrication of the bonnet catch means it operates more smoothly, then a short trip to the bottle bank.....which reminded me about the "popping" on over-run. 1/4 turn richer, which increased the tick-over slightly, adjusted that back.... and all is sweetness and contented burbling. The engine sounds OK too.

got 60mph+ winds here, went outside to find a pretty big tile next to the land rover, looks like it hit the tub going sideways, otherwise it wouldve cut right through it...glad it didn't hit the truck cab windows ???

barely any damage to the tub, just a few scratches, hit the ground pretty hard afterwards as it broke in half.

no tiles missing from mine or the nearby neighbours roofs, so must've travelled a fair way >:(

Drove mine to work on Saturday (1964 2a), about 15km each way. About halfway to work, lost acceleration at an intersection. Slowly got it to work, must have been running on economy jet only. Once home (again slow drive), removed main and accelerator jets, clean them both as well as the banjo union filter and does seem to have fixed it. First time this has happened to me, which is apparently quite common wth the Solex, nice to know its an easy fix!

So I was fiddling around underneath the car, removing the redundant spare wheel carrier from the bulkhead. Grabbed the rear prop shaft - it was loose :thud

Explained the funny ticking noises I had been hearing.

Took eight Series Land Rovers on a road trip from Longridge through the Trough of Bowland to our area meeting at Bridge House Farm in Wray. Another two land rovers joined us along the way. We also took in a couple of tracks too. A good run appreciated by all.
