New parts worse than old!
« on: November 30, 2019, 08:30:43 PM »

Ordered some new gearbox shims. Unpacked to find them rusty, bent, buckled and unusable. Worse than my 50 year old originals!

I have sent a dissatisfied email asking for replacements but I can’t believe they event sent them in the first place!! Surely the person packing them must have known they shouldn’t be posting such *&%^$!

You know when you've been Craddocked.

Indeed. Another week to wait for parts, assuming they send some that are actually useable!

You know when you've been Craddocked.

^ Succinct, but accurate.

They've been doing it for decades.

Try P.A Blanchard or Paddocks  :first

Don't choose your supplier on price alone...

I didn’t. I chose my supplier on stock availability.

I use Craddocks. For genuine less common parts there appear to be four options and whilst the other three seem far more consistent in service, I happen to drive past Craddocks on a regular basis. I walk in in person, wait while they assemble what I need, check it and take it with me. This saves a lot of arguments. I have only tried to use them twice by post. The first time was when they only had part of my order and the rest was to follow when they got it out of their offsite storage. It didn’t, so I dropped in a few months later when I figured they would have re-stocked at the shop and took the parts with me. The other time was a punt. Blanchards had sold out of swan neck manifolds and Craddocks still had them listed. I didn’t believe one would turn up but was quite prepared to reclaim my money. Much to my surprise, it actually did!

They phoned me today and agreed the condition was bad. Apparently they have found some more in “better” condition..... I’ll be the judge when they arrive.

Judging by the Craddocks catalogue offerings now they are heading downhill on quality parts in my opinion.

A few months ago I got a NOS timing cover for a 2.25 for £26+vat from Craddocks - it was just beautiful (and cheaper than the vampires on Ebay were selling old rusty ones for).
