Prices Still Strong?
« on: May 12, 2023, 07:13:26 PM »

I had thought prices were coming back to more reasonable (depending on your point of view, buyer or seller) levels after the highs of the Lockdown period but they seem to be holding their own or strengthening. No doubt the summer will see that trend continue.

Some that have done well:
1965 Land Rover Series IIA For Sale By Auction (carandclassic.com)
1965 Land Rover Series IIA 88” For Sale By Auction (carandclassic.com)
1959 Land Rover Series II 88" For Sale By Auction (carandclassic.com)

Yes, any vehicle registered as historic is excempt from all congestion charges nationwide including ULEZ in London.

Almost certainly going to cause problems with people buying classic cars they have no idea how to drive and then being surprised when they don’t stop or handle like a modern hatchback. Won’t be limited to landrovers either.

Almost certainly  if older cars are going to cause problems with people buying classic cars they have no idea how to drive and then being surprised when they don’t stop or handle like a modern hatchback. Won’t be limited to landrovers either.

This could be a problem for all of us if older cars crash or cause other to do so, the goverment may remove tax and mot exemption :shakeinghead

Sorry, but I really think the likelihood is minimal that those with no interest in classic cars (let alone L/Rs) will then flock to buy them just to escape ULEZ restrictions.

When the 'Historic' registration went back to a rolling date, you maybe saw a few more out on the roads (I think I did), but not really many more.

Those who have surplus money and are easily able to buy a classic car will probably put that money into a modern ULEZ compliant electric vehicle - if they have not so done already!

Those who can't afford the ULEZ charge will probably not be looking at a 'Historic' vehicle with all it's attendant maintenance etc. etc. unless they are already blighted by enthusiasm like the rest of us !

Yes, I might drive mine into London - just because I can ! Oh, wait a minute, how many gallons is that !!?

The links to these recently completed auctions weren't working on my first post.
Are these extraordinary prices, extraordinary vehicles, or both  ???

They're all 88" petrols with decent bulkheads, chassis, with mostly original bits, decent-ish paintwork and tilts, which (alongside Station Wagons) are doing well at the moment. Most of the £6-8k stuff you see on FB has at least £3-6k of work needed - let alone countless hours of labour.

Selling at auction sometimes yields higher prices, but there's also commission to consider, which at these prices will eat about a grand into the sale price.

Prices seem to tail off sharpish the fewer first sentence criteria are present.
