What did you do with your Series 2 in December last year ???
« Reply #45 on: December 27, 2019, 01:46:52 PM »

Of all the MOT's on all the vehicles I've had tested, not one of them has passed with flying colours.

All I've ever been given is a Pass certificate.

What do these flying colours look like, and what do I have to do to my vehicle to get them?

Forgive me, for I am confused. :stars

 ;)

Dear Confused of North Essex,
Many Candidates sail into an MOT station full of confidence with their "colours " flying (metaphorically)
Scraping through the test especially collecting advisories will reduce those colours to tatters  :shakeinghead
The opposite is to come through with those colours flying high!

Considering the uninspiring weather, and my massive migraine, a cracking blow-out-the-cobwebs trip through to the far West Coast with my son. Fully loaded including a keg of homebrew in the back, and some good tunes pumping out, going up Rest and Be Thankful. Wiper motors making good handwarmers ...

Ah, thank you Dentman.

My vehicles get through without advisories.

I shall expect colours next time.

What have I done with my SIIA today?

Fiddled with it.

Fiddled with it some more.

Got nowhere.

Came inside a had a cup of tea.

Hi today I have done an oil and filter change took the rocker cover off and fitted a new gasket, checked diff gbox transfer box levels, cleaned the rocker breather out with petrol, cut and fitted a new passenger side floor panel, and unbolted and lifted the roof panel cleaned it up and fitted a new seal and refitted with new fixings, and back flushed the heater, all in all a very productive day now enjoying a couple of Hobgoblins  :cheers Paul

Recently I noticed that it was lacking power going up hills and making strange noises when under load. So out with the timing light. A dab of TipEx on the pointer and pulley mark. The firing point was way off scale guesstimate at 15' BTDC. This was with the vac advance pipe disconnected. So slackened off the distributor clamp and a gentle rotation brought the ignition point back to about 6' BTDC.
It now started more easily and on a test run actually went up hills easily that before it had struggled with.

Refill the oils, after 2 months of daily use, 200 cm3 in the boxes and 100 cm3 in rear diff, not bad I think

Hi :tiphat today I’ve replaced the passenger side vent lever which had been repaired in the past with a good one that Paul had given me when I purchased the Land Rover  ;) also put the rear light covers back in with a little assistance from Swmbo and then went out for a nice drive around the lanes  :RHD happy days now relaxing by the fire  :cheers Paul

Been out greenlaning today with Gosney83 and Allthegearbutnoidea in Legless the IIA, Gosney's 109" IIA Station Wagon and (ahem) a Series III.

(Maybe pics on the FB page? I don't know how to do that - and anyway, I was the only person not to take any. :thud)

Having got the charging system working I now find that the engine spits and pops except with the choke out. Car's not been out since July so the petrol may be stale. Tank is also pretty nearly empty so may be picking up muck. I do have in line filters. Will investigate next year.......
