Any long-standing club members recognise this?
« on: December 04, 2019, 08:47:08 PM »

So, a friend of mine has just moved in to a house, and when looking around in the loft, came across this.

He sent me a picture saying that the logo looks a bit like the one on my Land Rover magazines?

No idea how long it’s been there, as the house has been vacant for around 8 years anyway.

Anyone in the club recognise it or remember when or what it may have last been used for?  :cheers

It will be a "one off" not officially commissioned by the club.

Can't help you with the source of that er... artifact, however I quietly appreciate the artfulness of the logo. Allow me to digress, you see I like that sort of thing. I mean where you can see 2-3 things going on in one piece of graphic design. From the hinge, to the spanner, friendship and the club itself. There can't be too many car-clubs with a logo that says it all in one hit, and quite like this does.

It's teetering on the brink of the sort of thing the advertisng industry would put in its design-press. I'm sure you can think of commonplace examples:

1) The Fedex logo has a arrow in there.
2) British Rail's railway line/arrows

It looks easy, but done right it's hard to conjure-up and do well. Sometimes it just comes... here's a few you won't know, and work by one of the greats, Herb Lubalin:

After some research looking through past issues of The Club's Newsletter/magazine I find:-

In September 1996 the committee approve the "Clasped Hands" hinge logo, a design suggested by the daughter of one of our founder members.

The design first appeared in print the following September (1997) and shortly after (a competition) the club adopted "Built Two Last" as the title of the club's magazine (recently re-branded as B2L).

So the earliest this "rendition" of the club logo would be from this time.

Would there be any possibility of the club acquiring this artefact  :first
Maybe it would make a good trophy for something ???

Hi Alan,
Yes, absolutely. I’d be more than happy to donate it to the club  :cheers
Just let me know what you want doing with it or where you want it sending and I’ll get it sorted.
Thanks

Well done 'the daughter...' she has as a talent. Lest any think it's easy, try to do as well. In rebrands the execution might sit cleaner and less 'cartoony'. The base idea remains sharp.
