When I got my SWB bitsa the kids named it Noddy because the harsh ride makes you nod. So when we got the Dormy it had to become Big Ears.

My 1960 88 is called Kermit (the hermit) because it's green and spends a lot of time in the garage!! It is neither he or she.
The 1969 SW is called HUM because that is its number plate.
The 1971 88 has been christened 'Crackers' because it's all cracked -according to my then 6 year old boy!

I've never named my S2, preferring to think of it as "a dear old thing" when I'm driving it.

I've never assigned it a gender either, but I can understand how some might.  If you "love" or feel great affection for your old Land Rover, (and who doesn't have that love/hate relationship with their S2?), I suppose it's easy to give the object of your affections a gender.  Whether the gender assigned to your vehicle, says anything about one's own sexuality, could be an interesting philosophical debate...... :-\

SWMBO calls it the Mangler.  Which is a nod to something very old-fashioned and made of wood and cast iron, used for wringing out wet washing before the days of spin and tumble driers.  But is also a completely unaware nod (in her case) to a little known horror film about a large evil machine that maims and munches up people.   :xmas truck

Because old Land Rovers have personalities, they should have names.
And they're definitely female!

Mine are Nancy (from the registration) and Mawgan (from her first owner's location).

Always thought it annoying when people referred to motors as "she"... It's a metal box fer eaven's sake.....I've never named them either but rarely they've acquired a name by chance or association..." Rattler" as one old example.. ;)
Folk often seem to extrapolate something from the reg. plate it seems...
But Porkster, they cost so much in paint and filler ???

My last 88, just sold this summer, I named Ignotus. That is Latin for unknown. Because of all the different things about it made me ask "Why?" and the answer was unknown.

Why did it have Polish tires?
Why did it have Italian running lights?
Why did it have Indian head lamps?
Why did the PO rip out the front wing panel and poprivet S3 headlamp panels in?
Why were the radiator grill panel headlamp holes welded closed?
Why was the whole car (including wheels) painted orange at 1 time?
Why was a courtesy light system wired in and not working?
Why was 1 foot square vinyl tiles popriveted to the entire tub?
Why was the maingear lever replaced with a long curly thing?
Why was the ignition key for a BMW?
Why was there 1/4" of body filler over the front and doors?
Why did it leave the factory a petrol for the home market and was now a diesel in the US?

Dentman, I have more why's than Delilah,  "Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take anymore!"

My IIa is called Gastric because it randomly makes a strange gurgling sound. Always has done as long as I have had it.

Before that my RRC was Tessa

Before that my SIII was Betty Blue

The Triumph is Sabrina

The motorbikes are Ruby and Bambi

None of the modern *&%^$ has a name, just simply known as The Nissan, The Ford or The Mazda.

The Panda camper was named by my granddaughter as it's black & white (with some bare alloy bits)  :first

I (sadly) have a bit of a thing for naming cars.
My old Series 3's over the years were:
Lucas (obvious reasons)
Gary (GAR123K)
Tank (because, well, it just was!)

and my current IIA is Victor (reg begins VVF, Victor, Victor, Foxtrot).

Even my others get names - My Skoda is called The Stuperb and my electric car is called Sparky
