Neal, it must be very difficult for you with both your mum and dad being ill and the cancer news must be devastating but remember fantastic strides have been and are being made in the treatment of cancer and more and more are surviving for many years, lets think positive and hope your dad is one of those.  Both my parents had forms of cancer but it didnt kill them they died of other conditions, dad living until he was 93.  My mother in law is 91 next week and she had bowel cancer over 15 years ago.

You and your mum and dad are in all aour thoughts and prayers.

Oh dear Neal, very sorry to read that news.

It's difficult to deal with emotionally for the whole family, but as others on here have said, cancer is seen more as a chronic illness these days, and not the death sentence it once was.  The important point is that there are options for treatment.  As long as those options exist, then while there is life there is hope.

I was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago now, I'm in my mid-seventies, and I've still got my beloved 88".  I have to go for 3 monthly checks, and so far so good.

Hopefully Oldun has a few good years still ahead of him, so don't rush to sell his 109 just yet.  Life goes on until it doesn't.....

Best wishes.

Hi Neal

If it were me I would be dragging my feet a bit, everything is a bit raw at the moment with this diagnosis coming on top of Roger just finding out that he has diabetes.  Perhaps your dad needs time to find out what the future holds before making major decisions.

Now is not the best time to sell - dark, cold winter days. Everything looks gloomy. Best time to sell is just after Easter.... Gives you all time to fully appraise the situation.

I think he's been working towards selling for a while now, this just seems to be final nudge towards the decision.

He quit driving a couple of years ago and it was obvious due to his back injury and the nerve damage that I was going to be the one doing the restoration. But now with my work and their health it is very unlikely either of my parents will see it completed.

Talking to Phil at Dunsfold and dad we believe the best way forward would be to sell the car through the club so we can at least keep track of her.

A new issue has arisen in that if (as seems likely) mum is taken into full time care obviously dad would follow. I'm waiting to hear back from our care manager but it seems that in all likelyhood we will lose the storage we have now.

It never rains, it pours

Difficult times - sorry to hear of your news.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

Talk - the medical, the practical, the family and the mundane.

The Land Rover has been around for a lot of years, it can wait and is the least of your worries. I'm sure there are people on the forum who can help you to store / look after it if needs be.

I'm hoping for the best for you.

Another update.

So far it's been confirmed Dad (Oldun) does have type2 diabetes... No problem that's just diet and medication for control.

Also he suffered a "minor" stroke affecting sensation and dexterity on his right side. Physical therapy should have some improvement on that one.

As to the growths on his lungs and liver we are still awaiting news.

Sadly he won't be home for Christmas.  :shakeinghead

He still has his sense of humour even though he is frustrated and bored with his situation.

He, I, we all thank you for your kind support at this time

I'm sorry to hear this news Neil, but never give up, I was diagnosed with a disease that mimics cancer with fibrosis and shadows / growths in my Lungs, liver, spline, upper stomach and heart, I thought this was it for me, any way after a lung biopsy I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis which the actual disease will not kill you but will stop your organs functioning correctly, but can be treated with steroids or other medication, so sometimes things don't always appear to be what you are initially told.

I hope it all works out for you and your dad, my Land Rover was my savour along with my wife, daughter / son in-law and Grand Kids.
