Hi,
When we used to drive to France, late at might (various Land Rovers) I'd sit a comfortable distance behind an HGV on the M4, and let him do the decision making. But I was aware that this might worry "Yorkie", so after about 10 minutes, I'd pull out, overtake, and find another victim.
On two occasions, we departed from our "place in France" at midnight, drove up to Calias (300 miles) ... and scarcely saw another set of headlamps. Wonderful. Service stations were open, but all self service, so refreshments came out of the vending machines.
As "property owners", we were entitled to special rates through the tunnel (Calais to Dover took 35 minutes, if my memory is correct), and the first train of the day was the cheapest. A wonderful time to travel ... until we hit the M25. Our target was 13 hours, St Malo to Swansea., about 600 road miles, plus the wet bit.
On none occasion, Barbara booked for the wrong day. It cost £5 to change the ticket.
