Recommendations - servicing
« on: January 27, 2020, 09:53:24 PM »

It's been a while since I asked a question, and a while since I used either forum, so a question on etiquette:

Can we seek recommendations for traders or goods?

I'm trying to find a garage which knows Series 2A or 3s for servicing, but the Google results just come up with the usual suspects using a bot to say they do Land Rovers.

Grateful of guidance.

Hi Chris and welcome!

Yes, please do ask for recommendations - you are likely to get people's personal experiences, which may or may not reach consensus.

Can I suggest you update your profile to add a location (county or town as you see fit) as it helps with this kind of question. A fantastic garage near Land's End may not be of much use to you if you live near John O'Groats.

  &  to the Forum.

Yes you can.

Better would be to give your location and get along to some local pub meetings.
Local members can best recommend where best to get things done.
In pub meetings you can say it how it is and not worry about libellous comment on here.

If you're anywhere near St Ives Cambs, St Ives Motors knows them inside and out.  Their recovery truck and the owners' personal transport are both Series IIAs.

Roger,

Judging by your recent posts, I would suspect you are now the local St Ives Series IIA expert  :RHD

Thanks all

I’m in Uxbridge, West London, so anywhere in that area would be good to know about.

Roger - thank you for the St Ives steer. That’s a couple of hours away, but not impossible.

As I posted ^^^

Try your local pub meeting(s).

You need local input and experience and not all the local members come on here.

There's a pub meeting tomorrow night in Bourne End, which is only a short run up the M40 from you.

Never used them, but my brother in law mentioned Harris Mayes Country Cars which is very near you I think. They at least sell old defenders which is better than the shiny new range rover places. Might be worth a call.

No, I think that would be Steve Morris who owns St Ives Motors - he's had hundreds of them, including FCs etc.  My field of expertise is very restricted!

Thanks all

A diary clash kept me from tonight’s meet. I’ll try to get there for the next one
