« on: April 25, 2020, 10:46:48 AM »

Hi All
Looking to replace my battered old front bumper, so looking for recommendations for decent manufacturer?

I'm told some of the cheaper type on offer are made with thin metal

I bought mine, maybe 8 or 9 years ago from my local independent.
Very good quality imho.

Is your original rusted/cracked or just dented with surface rust?

If the latter, they do straighten out fairly well and can be made to look respectable by taking the rust areas off and with wire wool, painting in with zinc-rich primer and rubbing over the area with fine wire wool and black wax or Dinitrol - almost undetectable. A thought if it isn't actually too bad?

I reckon it’s just about had its day....twisted both ends and rusted, so I am going to treat it to a new one.
I had a look on eBay and at £68.00 pounds looks to be a pretty good copy of the real thing but as was pointed out the thickness of metal may not be up to expectation. In saying that I guess the originals were designed to crush before the chassis did in a shunt!

I had to buy a new replacement recently, and it’s fine. Not thin metal, has the starter handle hole formed correctly and it’s galvanised. Cost about £50

Where from exactly?

Landranger services in Stockport. I think it’s Britpart or Bearmach.

Many thanks to all that responded to my request for help
Just had a look at the GDI bumper and it looks good so I am going to order one of those 👍
