DVLA query
« on: August 27, 2019, 09:14:02 PM »

May I ask a question on here to help with insurance  ???
My co driver needs to know his driver number and proof of passing his driving test in April 2007.
It's proving difficult since he no longer has a license   :agh

I've looked again and not seen a request for drivers number on the link only NI details, address, DOB and postcode...... I've not gone through the process so it must come on a later page. Sorry.

If hr passed test in 07 should have renewed licence in 2017 , could be driving without a valid licence.  >:(

No, I didn't see a request for the drivers number, until the form dumped the info from the boxes and then presented with a request for drivers number also  >:D

Don't worry 109+1, he returned his expired license, the expiry coincided with his move to Canadia
He'd like proof of his driving experience to cut his insurance premium, he's no NCB after a layoff and premiums tend to be high over there anyway
Thanks for your concern

Hi,

When did he move to Canada?

I THINK that at one time, your licence entitlement lapsed after 10 years, if you didn't renew it. I don't know if that is still the case. ???

I'd expect DVLA to have a record of the licence being surrendered, on their computer, and that will be when the clock started ticking.

I think.

Hi,

If the DVLA licence was used to prove entitlement for a Canadian licence, then the bandy men in red jackets and baggy trousers probably retained a copy.

DVLA may even issue a new licence ... to a UK address.

On my pink licence the driver number can be derived from my name and date of birth. It also doesn't expire after 10 years. I have no idea if the current licence works the same way.

I remember that when they changed from an annual licence, the extra cost was justified because it would last for life. What happened to that promise?

‘Life’ means till you’re 70.
You then need to renew, ticking all the right boxes. Originally a fee was charged, but I think it’s free now.

John, did your son return his paper copy as well as his plastic licence?  If not it may be somewhere in your house.

Hi,

My understanding is that your licence lasts until your 70th birthday, Any changes that DVLA require (name, title, address, etc. I'm not sure if
changing from Provisional to Full will be free (Barbara says it was free ... in her day), Medical Restrictions,  I think they hit you with the full fee, if you have been disqualified ... maybe even a retest?

Renewals (every three years) after you turn 70, are free (I think).

I've just tried the link. I needed NS number but not driving licence number. It opened almost instantly.

But there is no record of when I passed the test, simply a very detailed list of what I am entitled to drive, even down to a provisional licence to drive a tracked vehicle, plus endorsements (none).
