Has anyone here used a Caranex with their S2?
Pros and cons?
Many thanks  :tiphat

I’ve had one for about 4 years and really like it.

Pros:
- Lots of space;
- Tall enough to stand up in;
- Fits perfectly to a Land Rover (H4TL model);
- Sewn-in groundsheet;
- Waterproof;
- Stands up well after detaching from the Land Rover, even in windy conditions;
- Made in Scotland.

Cons:
- A bit tricky putting it up, (instructions aren’t so clear) but once you know how it’s easy;
- Can be tricky re-attaching to the Land Rover after detaching;
- Pegs and guy-ropes are a bit low-quality, but easily upgraded.

I’d buy again...

I have the slightly smaller H3 model, and its a perfect, snug fit on my Series 1 - would agree 100% with the above comments. I bought a couple of adjustable long luggage type straps to go from the tent front to the windscreen pillar supports - makes putting it up a lot easier.

Also, best to buy the extra pole set if you can, as these can be used when standalone - or for additional support inside if windy.

Excellent quality, and gets easier to put up the second time!.

Dave.

PS - There seems to be 2 colours they did - deep green and a muddy brown (like mine).

Great bits of kit. I use mine with the Carawagon and it's spot on. I'm actually selling it (H4 model) as I'm buying my mate's off him instead (his is an H4TL so will fit around the pop up roof a bit better, which is the only reason I am changing).
They were originally patented by Carawagon which I only recently noticed - they've changed very little over the years. Not sure why they seem to be different colours depending on the age - mine is green all over but the one I am getting is green sides but brown roof and end ??? Original ones were bright blue.

^^^^ thanks for the very helpful responses. Your insightful observations and photos are much appreciated.

The bargain secondhand one I came across has been snapped up all of a sudden after hanging around for a few days, so more serious thought is needed before I splash out on a brand new one.

Thanks again  :tiphat

Think you will struggle - they dont make them any more!!

(I got lucky and found a new one on ebay that had been bought a few years ago and never used)

PS - just noticed on their website they seem to be planning a new design for 2020...

I had one (which is actually the one Callum is moving on) and the only issue I had was that because I have parabolic springs on my series one, the rear end sits up quite high. The Caranex has a built is skirt to cover the lower rear of the vehicle, but due to the height issue, there was a bit of a gap. This could be easily cured though with a bit of cunning. Otherwise, a good bit of kit - I only sold mine as I have too many tents.
