What is this
« on: July 17, 2020, 05:29:00 PM »

I'm having a bit of a tidy up and found what I think is a flywheel housing for a S? petrol engine?, it is marked 247547 GBF, any ideas as to the year/engine

Thanks in advance :tiphat

The '81 parts book only has the 2.25 numbers in it  --- and it isn't a 2.25 number. The 2.25 numbers are 247526 and 564394[engine suffix K onwards]

Its got the timing aperture - so its earlier - S3 petrol have none, diesels do.

IOE rather than OHV engines have the top bellhousing bolts either side of the centre line - OHV have a centre top one (same for petrol & diesel) - so S2 or 2a.

The only engines I recall taking apart are petrol 11/11a or 111, never had a oil burner before TDI, unless it was a odd part I picked up and forgot :stars

247547 is the casting number so it wont appear in the parts book , probably first used on the 2 litre diesel

Hi,

I'd be grateful if you could tell me the nominal diameter of that casting, pretty please.

Hi Oilstain.

Thanks for response.

The whole thing, without the bump for the starter motor. No need for critical accuracy at this stage.

The object is to have a rough measurement that I can compare with similar data on engines from other marques, eg. British Leyland B-Series (Marina 1.8, MGB), and I have not yet ruled out BL's 1.3 A+ (also Marina).

If it comes from an OHV engine the bellhousing studs will be 3/8 UNF - IOE engine BSF
