Steering wheel glove. Pleased with it.
And a drive around the field to make sure it feels ok, and it does.
And up and down the hill in 4WD to spread the lube.

Sure, on eBay
It was recommended I think by 602 on another thread.
Good value at £20 and straightforward to fit, took an hour or so.
Cheers Paul

Preparing to refit the engine.

Swapped the original MoD 24v top pulley and 8 bladed fan for a 4 bladed one & "civilian" top pulley from a 2.25 diesel in order to get the fan-belt to line up with the alternator in "normal" position, the PO had bodged it when changing from 24v to 12v but it left the alternator mounted behind the tab on the mount rather than in front, all a bit wobbly. All needed a good clean up and a bit of paint.

Pinched the spin-on oil filter housing from a spare 2.5na diesel, fitted that. Noting that 7/16th bolts are a tight fit in a 10mm hole. Left the old filter on the housing as it'll be getting an oil change at 500 miles. Engineer suggested using "old fashioned" 20/50 as more modern thinner oils are not as good for bedding in new rings ?

Cleaned out the air filter, started painting the now easier to access inside of the engine bay, steering components, air-filter holder and the like.

Progress...

It is really wierd that yours wouldnt line up Gene, I have double pulleys on mine and one groove lines up perfectly with my alternator mounted correctly on its proper bracket.

I would have thought that one of the grooves on the double pulley would be in the same place as the single pulley.  Do you have a double pulley on the crankshaft?

Hi Andy
Cheers. Most of it down to the PO
Working on the cupholder idea. That drink was a very boring cold peach tea, I'm afraid, as it was a muggy morning.
The deluxe seat vinyl is splitting a bit - mainly because I forget to lift my backside high enough when getting out :cool

"boring cold peach tea"
Although I've just noticed, the tea bag in it looks like Abe Lincoln. Curious ???

Took it for a 50 mile thrash up to Loch Vennacher for lunch to test it after replacing the exhaust valves. No more popping on the over run now. Also first time out to eat since the lockdown. If you're in Gene I may stop and say hi.

Its the layout of the 24v system Peter. Looking from the radiator there was a single inner belt on the right hand side running from the crank up to the water pump and back via a jockey pullet roughly where the alternator would be, closer to the engine than normal on a civvy vehicle. Then, closer to the radiator, there were twin belts from the crank heading left to the 90 amp generator, mounted high up on the left side of the engine and back via an idler. The crank pulley therefore has 3 grooves, the middle one being about  the same spot as "normal"...... but there is no corresponding groove on the water-pump pulley.  The perspective on this picture is a bit weird but hopefully shows how far back the single groove is on the 24v water pump pulley.
