Thanks oilstain, picked one up on the way home.
Hopefully it will speed up building the cabinets in the utility room, so I can get back to important Land Rover based work!

What’s the advantage over a cordless drill?

I find the hammer action is a lot better for loosening/ tightening bolts. A bit like hitting a t-bar with a hammer many times a second. There is debate about how useful they are for woodscrews. I prefer them and it's useful to have a drill bit in your drill then an impact for the screws.

I tend to use an impact for most bolts now. Doing them up and undoing them and only using a ratchet for final tightening or loosening really tight bolts. What you really need are some hex to square drive adaptors.

What’s the advantage over a cordless drill?

For putting screws into wood the power of these is amazing. My Makita version will drive 4” screws straight in without any effort.  Another advantage is there’s no torque reaction against your wrist. It’s not a big deal if your putting in a few screws but if you’re doing 2000 screws into decking it’s a big plus at the end of the day.

I have a Makita 240 v impact screw driver , small light and powerful , when Iwas planning my mancave it was a choice between that and a paslode , 40p quid or 70  , as I don't work on site it was a no brainer , 90 and 110 screws effortlessly , no batteries to worry about , fitted a 6 m lead , as a plus it is brilliant for stripping parts for the landy and running the wheel nuts on before torquing ,just use my Makita drill,  for holes ,
